Could Jeff Skinner end up being the feel good story of the playoffs?

his skating sucks? thought it was good early in his career he took figure skating when he was younger ? i believe. but yes hes undersized and bad defensively.
I remember that as well. Also, good edgework. I think it would be tough to have him in in leau of Brown, though, given what Brown has brought these playoffs, and even regular season.

If it were me I would have Skinner in for Frederic who I don’t believe is at 100% and hasn’t been very effective so far offensively or physically.

I think they need those x-factors versus Bennett, etc. I hope he wasn't injured from this.

No he missed months with a high ankle sprain and re-aggravated it his first shift back and then had to miss a few more weeks before the playoffs. Maybe the week off here will do him some good.

Meh, he chose to cash in when he could've left Buffalo for a better team. Thats on him.
Hard to walk away from $45M over 5 years. Biggest contract of his career and he still has at least a couple years left to chase a cup on discount deals.

Although it seems like years of playing a certain way on a bottom feeder have left him unable to flip the switch on a good team when it matters.

Maybe he’ll draw in at some point this series and prove me wrong?

According to the lineup in the GDT it won’t be tonight though.

I am an oiler fan so I am bias... but 99% of the oiler fan base wanted this guy at the deadline at all cost to add something we needed,
He plays 1 playoff game and joins the black aces,, it took not one but two injuries to get this guy back in the line up

I assume most of you after over 1000 regular season games, this is the first time he has played in the playoffs. Just remove the fact he plays for the oilers and he could be the feel good story of the playoffs
Hopefully Skinner signs a big contract with Oilers. 7 years, 90 million. Make it happen Stan 😉

*Biased.

A bias is something you have.
Biased is something you are.

Sorry to be that guy. But MANY posters on this site get that wrong. So lots of people need to read this.

Bias--by definition. I was talking present tense. Biased can be view as past tense. If you look the definition of both words--you will see both Bias and biased are presented the same way

bias

noun
OPAL W

/ˈbaɪəs/

/ˈbaɪəs/

  1. [uncountable, countable, usually singular] a strong feeling in favour of or against one group of people, or one side in an argument, often not based on fair judgement
    • accusations of political bias in news programmes (= that reports are unfair and show favour to one political party)
    • Employers must consider all candidates impartially and without bias.
    • Do you think that there's still a bias against women in some industries?
    • The article examines gender bias in our schoo
I am bias and you are biased

imagine if the Oilers had bolstered their defence instead of getting Skinner
We bolstered our defense AND got Skinner. Klingberg has been playing great after a shaky start, and I know you're a Wings fan so you probably don't like to hear this, but Jake Walman has been very good for us as well. A shot blocking machine in many ways. There's no weak link on the Oilers blue line right now, so much so that if we have a depth guy go down, we're still confident that Stecher would come in and play as well as he had in the playoffs up until Ekholm came back. The blueline isn't a problem in Edmonton, at all.

Frederic hasn't been a difference maker, but his physicality and willingness to do dirty things is probably more valuable than Jeff Skinner's offense only play. There's a reason the coach doesn't trust Skinner, and it's not his talent level.

No because he will be scratched in the SCF. Any offense he brings isn't enough to offset his lack of defense and physicality. Two things needed to beat a team like Florida.
This is the answer. He only comes in if injuries occur, and if he DOES come in, he won't get much ice time. He could have a Klima moment though, some have suggested that, and I think they are right. If more injuries take out Oiler forwards, I could see it happening. A somewhat fresh Jeff Skinner coming in late in an overtime game or late in the series could catch some tired legs by surprise and score a goal.

My thought on it is essentially that it's not necessarily that Jeff Skinner is a bad player, it's just that he's far enough down on the depth chart that if he actually has to play, something has gone pretty wrong for Edmonton already.

I am not expecting it to happen and hard to argue against the coaching staff given the results. However I’m of the opinion that a player like Skinner could really capitalize on some odd man rushes should the Oilers execute their breakout effectively.

Frederic in theory brings all that stuff but I haven’t seen a ton of it to date. In large part I think due to the injury and coming back so late but I’m not expecting a jump in play from him.

Incorrect. I see I'm already getting hate for being the grammar police, so I wont post more after this one. But the ed in this case isn't to indicate past tense. It's added to a noun to make it an adjective that means "having (that noun)".

Take the word talent, for example. To say "McDavid is talented" doesn't suggest he used to be talented, but is no longer so. The tense here is signified as present tense with the word "is." "McDavid is talented" is present tense.

talent = noun = something you have
talented = adjective = something you are

You wouldn't say "McDavid is talent" when saying it in present tense.

I am biased (adjective). Having bias (noun).

noun vs verb and a few other things comes down to context.

It’s proper English to talk about BIASED PEOPLE. A person can BE biased or HAVE a bias. For instance:

  • I am a biased mom and think my kids are the cutest kids on earth.
  • I have a BIAS and think my kids are the cutest kids on the earth. OR
  • I am BIASED – my kids are the cutest kids on earth.

But wouldn't you say that Mike Richards is cannon? :sarcasm:

For sure! He was dominate in out house.

Back on topic, I am cheering for Jeff Skinner. I've been a fan since he was with the Canes. I think it would be a great story if he won the Cup in his first playoff run after a thousand game career.
