As I have said in many threads, it's just over 1/3 into the season and the entire NYR team has been struggling.

To say that both Kreider (from other thread) and Mika are washed is crazy. They have been top performers for the last 6/7 years consistently but struggle for a 1/3 of a season and all of a sudden they are washed, negative value & on anchored contracts? Seems a heavy over-reaction.

Now all you have to do is flip Hayon, Shesterkin, and Fox to Buffalo for Cozens and Power, and you have yourself a bern proposal.
Bern would offer Brodzinski, Jessiman and Bickel for Cozens and Power then try to bring up some random analytics that claim he’s making a good proposal.

I’m of the opinion that you’d have to add 2 first round picks and a grade-A prospect to move on from Zibinijad’s contract. I think it’s the worst in the league by far. The Rangers won’t do that, but maybe they can figure out some sort of a mutual contract termination this summer or buy him out. They’re both clearly miserable with eachother.

But it’s the Rangers, so some dogshit win-nothing club from the west coast will give them a 2nd round pick and a middle six winger for him in the offseason.

Toronto, Ontario
to Utah Hockey Club
Mika Zibanejad (6y @ $8.50m)
Reilly Smith (expiring @ $3.75m)
Matt Rempe (expiring but RFA @ $0.82m) waivers 2025

( Rangers add, you tell me what the fair price is )
TOTAL CAP = $13.07m

to New York Rangers
Barrett Hayton (2y then RFA @ $2.65m)
Nick Schmaltz (2y @ $5.85m)
Alex Kerfoot (expiring @ $3.50m)

TOTAL CAP = $12.00m

This move helps the Rangers move on from Zibanejad's huge contract as he's declining. It makes the team younger, provides more cap and roster flexibility long-term, and opens up $1.07m in cap space for this season.

What would NYR have to give to UTA to make this a fair trade?

This is really bad for Utah. I don't know what the Rangers could possibly give them to take on Zibby's boat anchor of a contract, but it would be multiple first round picks.

But you also have Utah, inexplicably, giving the Rangers Barrett Hayton, too. Considering they are getting back a massive cap dump, a 33-year old extremely mediocre soon to be a free agent and an AHL tough guy, I can't imagine what reason the Utah side would possibly have for doing the trade at all, never mind surrendering a valuable piece in Hayton and useful middle six guys in Kerfoot and Schmaltz.

This is just a terrible, terrible trade for Utah. They get nothing of value, at all, and they take on a radioactive nightmare of a six-year deal for Libby.

This is really atrocious.

Nothing in the OP implies that he doesn't...

A cap dump who COULD turn it around and be a decent 2nd line center for Utah... or not. An overpaid high-cap reclamation project with 5.5 years of term (and buyout-proof contract).

NO, imo Kreider, temporary back issues notwithstanding, is still a first rate athlete who is being pulled down by zib and co
Chris still has a bit in the tank

Mika is like 90% the same physically but apparently has checked out
Given that, he IS effectively washed.
If someone wants to gamble on him at half, do it.

how little you know/understand me

It would be masked in his word salad.

He has 5 yrs at 8.5 per
per the Marleau standard
that would be a 1st rounder for up to 6m/yr, 2nd for 5-6per etc
so a 1st for each = 5 1sts

If, like I suggest, Rs eat half to 4.25 per
then that's only 5 3rds
assuming nothing else of value added

Zib might waive for VAN because of ElPett
and at half, for lesser assets, they go there

If OP wants something for Utah, he should do a competing offer along similar lines, imo

Also, Rempe has enuf upside he is not ordinarily getting moved
-- of course Rs mgmt has stupidly defied bern before, but that should be their position

A 31yo player who has declined significantly signed at 8.5m for 6 more years, turning 32 in 4 months.

Along with that you're offering to take back Utah's #1W, #1C, and productive middle six tweener who can play up and down the lineup, plays well defensively, can play special teams, and is signed at a reasonable cost.

Rempe isn't even worth a roster spot and the optics would be horrible for a team that plays in a state that probably has the highest concentration of potential fans that would hate his game/violence in general. Smith is whatever. And Zibenejad is...at best a 2nd line center improvement on Hayton for maybe another year? Going to decline fast until he's LTIR'd and pseudo retires?

I think Utah has more than enough prospects in the cupboard right now, if I were them I would want one of Laf, Chytil, Fox etc back if they were taking that awful contract back.

if this is supposed to be satire, you're my favorite poster on the forum.

if it's not, you need serious help and I hope you get that help.

wait what? 5 3rds instead of 5 1sts because of retention? I dont think thats how the value charts work

That IS the objective math
Marleau w/zip production btw was taking his 6m for 1 yr, cost of a 1st

That means
5m = 2d
4m - 3rd
etc

all of the above per yr

obv alternate combos are available, but pt remains it is equiv of what 5 3rds are in his case

when did the Marleau deal become the de facto baseline? and this isnt a 1 year deal. you cant just tack on picks for extra years and think they hold the same value. thats not how it works

I would legitimately say 4-6 first round picks

EDIT: I actually don't even think that would do it. Might take 3 1sts to dump Zibanejad alone
