I think it is gonna have Howard and Nurse in it as well.

I know people will hate Nurse, Gibson and our goalies will be excited to get run a little less. I bet he won’t waive for here is the hold up.
Actually; I might take him over picks. He'd play top four plus PK. Overpaid... sure, upgrade though and can play tough minutes against good players.

In the Wings defense, what if they’re more sold on their other two goalie prospects much more than Cossa and wanted to get the best deal for him now than he proven right and watch the market crater for Cossa

This makes sense if you believe Cossa will not be an NHL player at all.

If Cossa doesn't face plant, then this is just another example of poor evaluations from this organization.

Found an interesting take in the bowels of Twitter and it makes sense.

Apparently Edmonton had intent on simply multi year offer sheeting Cossa in the 2.4-4.8 AAV range. The compensation is a 2nd round pick and Edmonton does still have their 2027 2nd.

Detroit would be hesitant to match..

That’s why the rumour is 2nd + something small.
If Oilers work out a trade instead of offer sheet, they may be able to save some cap space .

Interesting theory if anything…

We have a ridiculous amount of cap space so kind of stupid on our part. I think the slow up here is Nurse.

Which makes sense, they need to give something to get rid of him, but he can reject landing here. Nurse is a player Yzerman and Todd would say this group needs though for sure.

You force the offer-sheet. Match, make a trade or keep if the organization think he's an NHL goalie.

IF what you say is true; truly they're getting schooled.

Might be more enticing for nurse if we land the Larkin deal

It’s the commitment that would be the hang up.
Not necessarily the cap space. If Detroit truly doesn’t believe in him (or simply likes Postava and Augustine better). Matching multi years is tough to swallow.

Also for all we know. Yzerman could be preparing to extend Gibson this offseason. Wouldn’t be popular… but Chiarot happened.

Complete hypothetical.

Say the offer sheet is 4 years. 3.75 AAV would you match that ?

It’s risky if he flops in the NHL for everyone to see.
You could have a Justin Holl term on your hands.
You possibly have 2 studs in the chamber coming up behind him… is it worth the risk if some in org already have their doubts?

Is the draft close causing unfounded speculation and rumor mongering? Yes

Is a Canadian team involved in the rumor which causes massive disinformation from Canadian media and fans? Yes

Does the trade make zero sense for DET and directly addresses the major need of the other team? Yes

Yeah, our money isn't good, no one wants it and the worst that happens is you waive him like Holl and play him in the AHL competing with guys you want in the NHL.

Red Wings look stupid trading away a starting caliber goalie because they didn't want to match an offer sheet when they have no long-term goalie even signed in their system. At least for 2nd/mid round picks.

Now if they can get a good deal because they think they have depth in the system and a starter in place for a year to evaluate those guys. Sure, make a hockey deal for a player that improves the team to a team that'll trade you that player; can be the oilers but doesn't have to be. If Oilers like Cossa, it's hard to believe the Panthers don't like Cossa too who are also on the Larkin list.

I understand the uncertainty of the market and defended it a little given that, but man does the Chiarot deal suck right now given we want to overhaul the team and take a few big roster swings.

Cossa, Rasmussen and Compher for Nurse Howard and Podkolzin....
They’ll never trade podkolzin and taking Compher would be meaningless at that point

Instead of Rasmussen trade chiarot. We don’t need chiarot AND nurse. Edm still saves 6 mill cap space and it’s only year 4 we get crucified really with nurse’s last year

I don’t really want to add another smallish player in Isaac Howard but if debrincat/kane decide they want out ok or he can be flipped …. And I’d still hang on to cossa but for the hell of it

Chiarot & cossa for nurse, Howard , 2028 1st …don’t want a 2nd round pick for me to poop on …. Use mcdavid and edmontons desperation to get the 1st back. Throw back a 3rd if need be, tell them they can sign a Mcmann with that extra cap space and get them thinking

Then trade debrincat to a division rival so it gets McDavid thinking he wants out and hope that pick turns into a top 10 pick 😂

I mean I would have called Cossa up in November of this past year and made the playoffs so I am probably the wrong person to ask.

If the Florida deal falls apart and we do somehow get stuck with a package from Minnesota the Stramel and Howard connection is interesting on the third line.
