Nice to see the rational Devils fans respond here! My close Devils fan friends have a much different take and it's pretty unfair and unreasonable but, I guess that comes with being the next starting goalie post Marty. Yeah I recall a stretch during the 2013-14 season when the Devils were an aging offensively challenged fringe playoff team. They had a stretch of winning a few games with Marty when they somehow put up more than 3 goals! When CS was in net they'd lose 2-1 and a faction of our fan base pointed the finger at CS. Ridiculous and frustrating to this day.

Just caught the Cory Schneider interview for the Luongo ring of honour induction.

I was really impressed with his communication - it was very fluid and he came across as more charismatic than any time during his career here.

I think he's going to be scooped up into a broadcasting or management role sooner rather than later.

FB link to Canucks page (sorry I don't think it can be embedded on HF Boards)

He's worked some Islanders broadcasts this season. He does a great job.

He was a likeable guy. NJD were lucky to get him when they did. His Devils career didn't end smoothly, but he was absolutely stellar when he was healthy.

I love when former players become broadcasters. And I agree with @Siludin, he might be an up-and-comer.

Yes and no.

He was fantastic his first 3 seasons in NJ, but at that point the team was desperately in need of a rebuild and all he really accomplished was keeping them out of the basement and getting high picks during a time when there were some players going at the top of the draft.

Without Schneider, Brodeur probably never leaves NJ and could play as long as he wants on a rebuilding team and probably gets 700+ wins.

Not any of this is Schneider's fault, as it's on Lou for refusing to rebuild after an incredible 20 year run.

Interesting take. I sure can't argue with you. You're not wrong. Schneider really did lift those teams up from where they would have been otherwise. It's crazy that after the Brodeur era the only position they had sorted out was goal.

Yeah and look at how much trouble they've had filling the position since Schneider. Value-wise, the trade was fine and Lou could certainly appreciate how having a solid goaltender could change/define a team. It's just by that point, the Devils were old and a lot of years of very poor drafting/trading away picks finally caught up with them.
