Pretty weird career. Stuck behind 2 of the greatest goalies ever until 28 when he finally got a chance to be the elite starter he was hyped up as, and promptly fell off just 2 years later. It’s too bad we didn’t get to see him with more of an opportunity. His peak was that of a truly elite goalie

For around 3 years he was probably a top 5 goalie in the league. Had another few impressive years as a backup before that. It's a shame New Jersey wasn't very good during his prime. Great player.

poor guy's body just gave up on him

historically probably lost in the shuffle of all those monster goalies of the mid-'10s but he had a great peak

Lol you weren't around to watch Hasek with Buffalo? CS had some good years with the Devils but, it was nothing spectacular. Just very good on an average to bad rebuilding team. Deffenilty wins a cup if he switches places with Cory Crawford during that same period.
Could've sworn he won a Vezina with the Devils. Those first 3 seasons were some of the greatest goaltending I've seen.

In the future, you could probably make a good trivia question about which team his last NHL was with and stump the majority of fans.

Hot take. He showed promise in the canucks system, but never put it all together with the devils. Injuries didn’t help.

So does a beer league goalie to be fair.

I started watching hockey in the 2009-10 season so no I wasn't lol.

He wasn't in the same tier as Quick/Thomas/etc. (at least in terms of peak) but he was still one of the best goalies in the mid 2010's imo

He had 2 seasons where he was top 5 in sv% among starters and another where he was top 10 in his first 3 years with the Devils. Given the team he played for, he has an argument. I remember there were a few people who shared this opinion at the time.

Schneids had a very short peak but was outstanding in the early 2010s, one of the best goalies at that time. Too bad he couldn't have more longevity at the NHL level.

All the best to him in retirement.
