I am a Copp defender. I generally admire the way this guy has been thrown up and down the lineup and asked to literally play every single role whenever and wherever we needed him with literally every single person in this lineup so others can be comfortable being focused on just their thing.... and he's done it without complaint.

The fact in a player poll he was voted as the best guy or best leader (I forget the specifics), tells me he's just be a rock for this team and the fans here dog piles on him being 'an issue'. I think it's pretty telling that the Wings generally struggled to protect the lead the last two third periods because of poor play at the end of the game, the inability to pot an empty netter, our top players all looking gassed, and letting not 1 but 2 goals in succession because they allowed the momentum and negativity run roughshod on them.

These are all literally things Copp does: he takes difficult defensive assignments, he is often the 2nd highest PK ice time forward, defensive zone starts, and the reason he gets so many empty netters is because he's often trusted to be the forward first over the wall in those situations. We're going to miss him and I hope that Compher can step up and take that role
Like the player, never liked the contract. Too much money and or term. If either were less, I would have loved it. Kind of the same feeling about chiarot. TJ I kind of always liked, maybe too much money, but often scores big goals a la chris Drury.

Copp was solid for our center depth, this is definitely a tough loss. At this point either Yzerman tries to trade for a replacement or maybe give an opportunity to Kasper to center the second line and see if he can run with it.

I guess we're not moving compher in a deal for a 2c unles danielson/rasmussen takes over 3c??

Shouldn't take kasper off that top line and mess up what they got going on

While I feel bad for Copp and wish him a full recovery - that said this news brings about some anticipation of potential trades and the hope of making the playoffs.

Fresh air, a feeling of life renewed, warm weather, and playoff hockey in Detroit!

This is really a huge loss.

Because I'm very sceptical we would use that LTIR room for anything. We just lose the player and have to replace Copp internally or with some smaller trades.

Think this is Rasmussen's time to raise on Copp's heavy duty. Too bad he is injured too, but hopefully not too long.

Copp is going to be hard to replace... curious what route Yzerman takes. Short term stop gap veteran for a playoff run, maybe a buy cheap or cheapish guy or if he finds someone who fits the plan going forward. Cant imagine they stand pat, thats too big of a hole to fill. If you move Kasper and he fills in adequately that leaves a void where he was producing and playing well on the top line. Should be an interesting time from here until the deadline. You could tell the injury was bad as soon as he left that scrum... hope he recovers fully for next year.

You could tell by the way he just stopped using the arm immediately that it was a major tear or dislocation so I'm not surprised.

Wings will miss his faceoff and pk ability. I thought he played much better this year than last but he was at best #3 defensive center and not a top 6 guy.

Time for Compher and Ras to step up their games. Don't love compher at center as he is pretty horrid at faceoffs.

I'd be pro trying Kasper in between Kane and DBC and then trying either Soderblom or Berg on the top line. Not sure Soder can skate enough to keep up or if Kasper can handle how poor Kane is defensively though.

Would love to see Mazur up. Maybe he could take Kaspers spot on the top line, he brings many of the same elements defensively but that is a big ask for a rook.

I'm curious what Stevie does. He has the cap space to make a major move and I think Compher, Chia, Copp will all be moveable in the off season with the cap going up.

I hope Kasper stays on the first line and I hope this will be opportunity for Danielson or Lombardi.

Copp is ok defensively. But I don't think this is HUGE to replace. This isn't losing Larkin guys. We needed a center anyway. If Compher can be anywhere close to last year would really help a lot right now. I think we revist the Cozens trade now the problem is we have less leverage but he is drastically under performing so we'll see...

I hope Kasper stays top line but dont really want to see Danielson or Lombardi debut in the middle of a playoff hunt. Lots of pressure to put on guys first stint in the NHL. Would love to see them get time this year but Copp and Ras, thats a massive gap to fill down the middle.

This is a tough loss, ngl. 13.5 mil available for a deadline move though. Could be an opportunity to actually upgrade on Copp.

This isn't good. Copp doesn't live up to his contract, but he does some things that we need. Plays defense on a second line that doesn't have good defensive wingers, decent draw man, kills penalties, scores empty netters.

Short term, got to imagine Compher gets the 2 C job, but I am sure Yzerman is looking for the right deal.
