If owned a house, especially one in the country I would look at solar energy options. But I live in a town house condo so not much room to setup panels lol.

On a small note I bought a smart bread maker and it works great. It does all the hard work that our mothers used to do when making home made bread. I love it, nothing better then home made bread and the smell in the house.

I bought a heated vest and I am not sorry at all. The better half tried it a couple times and then wanted one for herself. She is also looking at heated gloves right now.

I have a couple battery boxes (a little Jackery and a slightly beefier off-brand one) that I got a while back partly because every summer my area was experiencing 3 or 4 power outages lasting hours at a time and I figured it would be nice to have some juice to run my wifi router and so forth and play retro videogames or watch Netflix - you know, fun stuff! I've had them for going on 3 years now I think and in that time there's been exactly 1 outage of maybe 45 minutes! lol. I was able to confirm that yes, I can run the router (for about 8 hours in fact) and get internet service and then the power went back on.

But, I do use them to power my headphone audio rig at home and for camping and I'm thinking about getting a solar panel to have on hand for emergency recharging in the zombie apocalypse.

I have a buddy that has heated socks and gloves for skiing. He swears by them. Haven't taken the plunge yet. But I do have something like 40 toques. A fine selection of gloves and mitts that are aligned to ever cooling temperatures on the bicycle.
