What is it with the mass amount of people that actually think, yes they sincerely believe, that Gary Bettman and the NHL have arranged the Oilers incredible comeback to force a Game 7....How in the world could this be arranged??? Does Bettman go and tell Paul Maurice, after being up 3-0, to instruct Barkov, Tkachuk and Bobrovsky to purposely lose the next 3? Does he call the referees before Game 4 and tell them to call everything against the Panthers but don't make it too obvious? Can we please keep these conspiracy theories that exist everywhere else in today's society away from our beloved NHL....

The people doing this aren't looking for reason, they're looking for excuses.

Welcome to sports.

There have always been conspiracy theories in every sport just as in life. I’m old enough to remember as a child the insanity that was the NBA draft lottery being rigged the year Patrick Ewing was coming out.

The only difference now is that every doofus on this planet has a platform to scream on and unite with like-minded doofuses.

Well it makes a lot more sense when you realize the earth is flat, Gary is a mole person, and these two factors combined explain everything. That missed pass in the first? Moleman Gary, under the ice. Lethargy from the Panthers? Gary underground with them drowsing agents.

Momentum and strategy, nah. Moleman. It’s like Penguin from Batman but it sucks.

That patrick Ewing one was different. He clearly threw the Knicks one, and only the Knicks one against the side damaging the corner and then that's the one that got picked. If it wasn't on purpose, it sure looked shady.

But that isn't telling the players who have played their whole life for this to lose a game or a series.

Fair the Ewing one had some actual physical evidence that at the very least was sus.

People are always looking for explanations for things that seem completely unreal, and unfortunately, this Panthers collapse totally fits the bill. The team that looked so impressive beating really good Tampa, Boston and NYR squads and then went up 3-0 on Edmonton, suddenly looks like an AHL franchise. Plus I think people are skeptical of anything where huge money is obviously involved.

Aliens 👽

For real though, sports in general has conspiracy theorists out the ass and Hockey is no different. Why do you think there's franchises in Florida, Texas, Tennessee, North Carolina, etc? Besides aliens of course 😄

Darth Bettman is a master of mind control.

Next question.

Wherever there are humans, there are conspiracy theories, unfortunately.

When the world doesn't make sense for the weakest and dumbest people, they turn to conspiracy theories to bond between each other and to lower their anxiety.

Just sit back and enjoy their creativity!

I'd argue that blanket statement that anyone who believes a conspiracy theory is part of the "weakest and dumbest."

Certain ones yes, there are some truly insane conspiracy theories out there that would make most people chuckle.

But lesser ones, like in sports feeling the refs may be favoring a team, are far more plausible. In the documentary about the NBA reffing scandal, he said they were told to call games differently depending on player and position. All sports are about making money, so I really don't think that kind of conspiracy theory should be in the same breath as a 9/11 truther or someone who thinks aliens abduct people.

I'm definitely not saying the officials have that much power in this series, it wasn't close enough for them to have enough of a say.

OP clearly didn’t see that missed too many men call in game 5

What too many men call? You're allowed to have more than 5 skaters on the ice. Rule 74 clearly states that you can do your change if the player changing is less than 5ft from your bench and neither player are involved in the play. You could legit have 8 players on the ice and not get called.

What changed was that the Oilers got going and their hunger and resolve intimidated the Cats enough to back off instead of upping the intensity. The last 3 games have been character wins and the Oilers proved that they got both the skills -and- the drive/hunger/desire that the Cats should have, but instead they seem to have embraced fear and surrender instead. It's become a team made up mostly of ghosts.

There's no conspiracy here.

Some people are just contrarian or are overly suspicious. Hell, there are people who believe the Earth is flat despite all evidence and reason so a sports conspiracy is hardly a stretch.
If you follow the money, the Oilers winning the Cup is NOT what the NHL would want if there were to actually try and influence the outcome.
