Skinner gets a W amd all the stu fans get to go to bed with a boner i see. Was again still the second best goalie on the ice. I dont think he had many high danger chances at all.

Ill never have faith in him getting the consistency we need to win the cup. He ain't the guy.......

You should actually pay attention to the team, you'd learn quite alot. Like they're alone in first place in the Pacific with 70 points, they also have a game in hand on the Knights. They have more points then every team in the Eastern conference not named the Capitals and more points than every other team in the Western conference not named the Jets.

3rd overall in the entire league, +30 in goal differential and They're 9 games over .500 at home and 8 games over .500 on the road.

Like for a team so helplessly flaw you have to piss and moan without pause or thought, they're really f***ing good.

What does literally any of this have to do with criticizing the officiating?

Yeah except that breakaway and the cross crease save in the first and...

At some point this team should be expected to actually score some damn goals, especially from players not named McDavid or Draisatl. The lack of finish this team has is becoming a serious issue.

Bit of a snoozer of a game, but we got the job done.

Trash reffing as per usual.

Robert Thomas is going to be having nightmares after this. Could have had 2-3 goals easy. But hey, he's a "set up guy".

He might have, though I thought it was buchnevich
Broberg. Holloway was walked by McDavid first.

It’s probably both easier and wiser to try to call the game “equitably” rather than call each individual play fairly. Tim Peel ultimately reffed a fair game. There will be bad calls and missed calls regardless of what you do. But you can try to make it equitable, and if you’re good you can succeed at making it fair. You can’t call ‘em perfectly but you can call em equitably.
If by "equitable" you mean even up calls, then I disagree. I do agree refs are human and will make mistakes. But if you make one, own it, and move on and try not to make any more. Evening up things means you're just piling on with more bad calls and makes a mockery of the game, IMO.

The Oilers play an overly complex game offensively that consists of overpassing, bad drop passes, and always allowing the player least likely to score to take the shot (Darnell Nurse, Brett Kulak, etc). They don't tend to funnel pucks to the net with screens. Hyman needs to start getting into the eyes of goalies if he's going to remain on the power play. A simpler game would go a long way.
I don't understand why would anyone bitch about s high volume shooting team it makes the goalie use more of his energy throughout the game which can effect how they potentially try and save high danger chances and it's not like high volume somehow means less high danger chances per game.

Too many low percentage shots and passing in high scoring areas. The Blues were more than happy to take shots from the slot, whereas the Oilers would often pass it from that spot.
The Oilers have transitioned into a volume shooting team. But as you said, even doing that, they still pass up chances in prime areas to pass it off for a shot from the side. When you have an opposition goalie that's having an off night, that can work very well and you can score lots of times. But when the goalies are having a decent (not necessarily great) night, it looks great in the stats with big shot numbers, but not a not of production.

Ask any goalie out there and they'll tell you they actually like a good amount of shots to stay in a game. Not necessarily high danger ones, but volume isn't really an issue. Keeps them focused and in the game. The tougher one is a goalie that hasn't seen anything for minutes at a time, and then gets a high danger chance or two

I wish our GM was like the avs and traded Draisaitl so it looked like he was working, even though it made the team worse.

Because a lot of the shots they are taking have next to no chance to score. Every game you'll see them pass up a shot opportunity from a prime scoring area (usually the slot) for a lower percentage play. You can pretty much set your watch to them overpassing on any odd man rush instead of making a simpler play. A prime example of this was near the end of the second where one of their depth lines had a nice rush into the offensive zone and instead of getting the puck to the net with a man streaking in, they tried to force a pass to that player (while he was tied up) and the chance was wasted. The drop passes and buttonhooks are also becoming a nuisance. I nearly had an aneurysm when Perry dropped a pass to nobody and it ended up in a breakaway going the other way. All too often a lone Oiler will enter the offensive zone and instead of charging the net they'll buttonhook to wait for others to enter the zone. However this also allows opposition players to catch up and get into position. What I want to see more of is this exact play:

Hyman drives the net and scores. At worst you maybe draw a penalty or force a faceoff in the offensive zone. But too many times they'll stop at the half wall and wait for others. This may result in a cycle but it almost never ends with a goal. You're allowing the opposition to get prepared instead of challenging them.

There's also a number of times every game where the Oilers will throw the puck around but the one that ends up shooting is usually the least dangerous player on the ice.

Thing is, if the Oilers are ahead by a significant amount I could care less how fancy they get but they often fall into this trap in close games and despite having ample opportunities to put the Blues away last night they just didn't. And this is hardly the only game this year where they have a large number of shots but a small number of goals. There's a point where the team isn't getting goalie'd, they're just not picking their spots very well. A lot of shots is great in theory but if they're just long range unscreened shots then they're not amounting to anything. Incidentally McDavid scored because he actually decided to shoot from a prime scoring area. That looked a lot more like 60 goal Connor McDavid and less like... well, everything since then.

This team has the offensive talent to blow anyone away but they often hamstring themselves with bad offensive choices.

Imagine being such a zealot that this is the post you make after that game.

He saved above expected. That's what I want from him.
I've said multiple times he has shown he had talent. He has been and can be fantastic in games. He doesn't have the consistency and has more bad games then good. Imo it's a mental thing and most likely goalie coaching issue but we all know that problem isn't going away

Skinner made some huge saves. I'm the first guy to say when he played poorly, last night was not one

Maybe so. I didn't catch the game other then the last 10 minutes and over time which oilers were in control

Just not gonna think all is gravy after he plays great every 3rd or 4th game. This is typical Skinner. Rinse amd repeat

except he was the sole reason we got a point against the Wings, because the Oilers so bad...it's not "every 3rd or 4th game"
