First I’ve heard the contract negotiation is not going well. Zary was injured again after the frost trade. So there’s a legit reason his TOI decreased. He had 2 knee injuries. Honestly Tampa wouldn’t make sense as trading partner. Flames could probably use Zary as trade up bait though.

It's not even f***ing July 1st, its pretty common for RFAs to not sign until after July 1.... and for the record, his ice-time decreased because he was injured and/or returning from injury, and then moved down when they moved Coronato up the the top line.

This is a nothing burger. Just a reporter taking a giant leap with something that at this point, is still very much innocuous. Given Zary's injuries that past season, he went from potentially getting something similar to Coronato to now a smaller and shorter bridge deal. There's no reason to think it'd be taken care of swiftly.

But that being said, the Flames are giving Zary the Sam Bennett treatment where they turn an obvious natural centre into a winger bouncing all over the lineup. Might be the best thing for Zary's career to be traded to a team that isn't as horribly impatient and risk averse as the Flames.
