The Leafs top 4 need an all-around defenseman, preferably a RHD. If they can't land Pesce, I think someone like Connor Murphy or Matt Roy could be a good alternative.

What could be the value of those two d-men?

Timmins + Leafs 2024 1st for Murphy (Leafs 2024 1st should be very late)

Unless Nylander is traded in deal that clear cap room or some unexpected move happens though the Leafs cant afford to fit Murphy this year

Roy isn’t going to get traded unless they get a similar RD at say under $2M to create cap space

Connor murphy and our 2024 3rd (will be high) for matt Murray TJ brodie and 2024 first. tor saves 5.287 off the cap and gets a cost controlled D.

Leafs downgrade their d so it totally defeats the purpose.

Matt Murray, Muzzin, Timmons and multiple 1sts for Murphy @75% retained

3rd round pick to 3rd team

There is very little incentive for Toronto to trade Muzzin and Murray , especially for 2 1 sts . Just not gonna happen . Murphy doesn’t have that kind of value . Muzzin is already a non factor against the cap and once bought out Murray has negligible impact as well ( this season anyway at 667k cap penalty).

it would help alot next year to not buy out murray this year. 1/2 the cap increase would be Murrays retention and nylander and matthews are probably both getting $2 mil in raises. that would be $6 extra mil and cap is only going up $4 mil roughly. they got bertuzzi and domi on 1 years but doubt that happens next year with allot more teams with space.

I’ve read as high as 7 . But you very well could be right. Either way you easily eat 2 million in cap rather than dumping a 1st or multiple 1 sts . I like Roy over Murphy if given the choice (

1 million?

Connor Murphy is owed $14.6m over the next three seasons. 25% of that is $3.65m in real cash for the 3rd team.

Recent cap dump moves suggest a 2nd round pick goes for about $2m in dead real cash. Factor in asking the 3rd team to lock up one of their limited salary retention slots for three years and yes, something close to two 2nds is a reasonable estimate.

3.6 million dollars is chump change to these owners. The owner probably uses cash in their fire place to keep their kids warm at night.

Cap space is what you’re buying and 1 million isn’t a lot. Probably 1 second since it’s 3 years.

Real cash lol the owner probably throws a duffle bag with 3.6 million at a stripper on a Saturday night.

Glad to see Roy getting some praise here.

Would take a massive overpayment to move him IMO. However I am split on his availbility. On one hand he provides better defensive play than Spence or Clarke (and given LA's Goaltending that is very much needed) on the right side. On the other, with him in the line up one of Spence or Clarke are either sitting or playing their off side.

End of day LA is better with him and they are trying to be competitive.
