Post-Game Talk: Connor Magic!

5 down, 11 to go! I had no belief starting the playoffs with the way the team played during the season and the obsession with Stu, with Stu out and what has happened the last 5 games I am having hope. A long way to go but feel much better about our chances at this point compared to 2 weeks ago.

What a clinic they have been putting on since GM 5. Keep this machine going
Connor Brown has been playing Conn Smythe like. Klingberg has been lights out. Bouchard was very steady last night .
Bowman took a lot of heat on these boards but all these moves he has made look great

Reading the GDT after a win like this is an experience. This is a very fatalistic fanbase for sure, though perhaps with good reason. Its not like there have not been reasons to expect first game disasters!!!! But in a 54 page GDT at about page 44 you would have thought the team was down 5-0 and completely outclassed with most of the players being total trash. Nurse for example was on the ice for 12SF 2SA, 2GF 0GA, 18SCF 5SCA, 7HDCF and 0 HDCA but from the comments you would think he struggled. A lot of this is passion but it is also a lot about instant analysis of every play with a razor focus on every perceived mistake.

I must confess that after the second goal my thought was...here we go again. But strangely, after Perry scored I honestly thought they would pull it out. Normally I am a trainwreck during playoff games but for some inexplicable reason I was very calm for the vast majority of this game.

I still think this will be a tough series. But I like our chances barring any injuries.

I told everyone all year when we get healthy this forward group would be nuts. Wait till we have our full blue line.
Beat the Kings in Games 5 and 6 with one non-empty net point total from McDrai and got the game winning and icing goal from lines 2 and 3 on "goal scorer" type goals, no flukes with either. That's some serious depth coming up big in big games.
If Ekholm returns, this is the deepest forward and defense group the Oilers have had since I've been following Oilers hockey in my nearly 30 years of watching, Emberson and Stecher would be the 7/8, that's some super impressive depth. Just need to get average goaltending from Pickard and sky is the limit.

This team is no longer just holding on when the 2nd to 4th lines are on the ice and waiting for McDrai. They're pushing the pace and, what's more, they can play it any way the opposition wants to. There's smarts (RNH, Henrique, Janmark), physical play (Frederic, Kane, Podkolzin) and scoring (Brown, Hyman) everywhere.

Once the Oilers get into trouble early in games they seem to go into the hockey team equivalent to the avatar state.

The inability to start on time is concerning but we are now guaranteed a spilt. That is huge!
