Never cesses to amaze me how to Jets keep going with Hellebuyck.
Just like the Leafs with Marner/Matthews.
At some point you have to bench him.
The organization is far too loyal. Appleton, Stanley and so on, continually get roster spots when there are multiple players in the PB who are better.
The organization and coaching staff are the definition of insanity.

1 and 3 look pretty bad tonight..

All the pressure on at home - all the makings of an embarrassing final game for him. Yikes.

Updated stats after 11 games.

First off, I am a Stars fan, but I don't see how Hellebuyck is to blame this series. Yeah I know he struggled against the Avs last year and STL this year, but he's been good this round.

He made a huge save on Marchment with 5 mins left? and gave his team a chance.

Honestly I feel for the guy, he's a great goaltender. It's unfortunate he's had some struggles in the playoffs. Not that I want him to go full Hasek now, but if Dallas doesn't win the cup, I'd like to see Winnipeg win it

This series in particular is not completely on him. But he's got 1 game out of 4 where he's above .900. That sucks man. Unless the Jets are absolutely horrendous defensively, that's not good enough. And the Jets have not really been bad defensively this series. Context also matters. You're in a must win game and you let Mikael Granlund score on a wrist shot from the high slot. Now you're in a must win game where you're playing well and you're chasing it. The Jets are always playing catchup because their goalie is letting in 2 out 9 shots to start every game.

They kind of have to be loyal. Good players aren't lining up to come here. The organization and fans were doing back flips when Scheifele and Hellebuyck signed those contracts, and tbh i almost dont blame them

He needs a new goalie coach. He does not handle pressure well.

I always wondered what happened in the 2017 offseason. Hellebuyck had dominated from the NAHL junior league, through college, then the AHL. Helle started off his first 15 NHL games amazing, and was actually leading all NHL goalies in stats by .early January 2016.

Then he cooled off, and was eventually replaced. In 2016-17, he had his most mediocre year as a starter, and the Jets only gave him a one-year deal, while signing Steve Mason from the Flyers as their designated starteer for 2017-18. Hellebuyck worked with a goaltending coach that summer, and changed his games around.

We have to keep in mind that Hellebuyck was not always a horrible goalie in the playoffs. He was a key reason the Jets made it to the Conference Finals in 2018, statistically outplayed Binnington in 2019, then shut down the Oilers in 2021, and had his best playoff stats of his career.

Something happened to him during the Vegas series in 2023 to zap his confidence. He has played terrible since, in the post-season, which is in direct contrast to the way he plays in the regular season. I'm convinced he needs to see some kind of sports psychologist, before it's too late during the 2025 off-season.

If you put like, Brandon Bussi from Providence on the Winnipeg Jets is he giving you a better showing than .845 save% over 11 games?
This is my thinking. Random AHL players get shots at the big leagues all the time, because you have 18 players. Goalies are a different story, and once youre in you'll get chances forever because youre deemed an NHL goalie.

But look at what it took Binnington to get to the NHL. An ECHL refused assignment and 4 injuries ahead of him before he made it. Watching many of these sorry ass goalies in the big league, I wonder how many more Binnington's are out there and will never be given a chance, because most coaches and managers dont know shit about goaltending

I get it, and obviously not being a Jets fan so that doesn't help. I just feel for the guy. Heck I even feel for Skinner, but that's another story.

First goal was weak, but so was the one Otter let in. The other two were great shots by Granlund. Hellebuyck possibly could of had the second one.

I imagine he'll have a huge game 5

They have benched him, in-game

If you mean they should start Comrie, Hellebuyck has to play a lot worse than he’s been playing for that to happen. GM’s don’t spend $60,000,000 on a GK only to turn around and let the coach bench him for a guy making league min.

How the f*** can you play a lot worse than .851 over 11 games?

Well in his last 5 games he's .887 with 2.51 GAA. That's like peak hasek compared to how he started the postseason.

As long as he's flirting with .890 they aren't gonna bench him for Comrie. If he was still consistently putting up .7xx then it would at least be a conversation.
