I'm glad there is an impartial thread in regards to this topic. On the Jets forum, the Hellebuyck worship is out of control. I mean I love the guy, but it's been three straight years that Helle has been rattled in the playoffs, and at no time was there ever a serious discussion to starting a different goalie, and give Hellebuyck time to regroup, or to change the game plan.
Nice to see a Jets fan that can see the truth. Because youre right, the homers here and in person are ridiculous

I can't see Hellebuyck being traded. If it does happen, there are teams that will see his potential- 3 Vezinas, his playoff appearances before 2023, etc. and we will get a great return.

The problem is management is too stubborn to use a reliable backup. We had Brossoit in 2024, and should have started Game 4 or 5 in the series vs Colorado, but never did. The organization is too stubborn for it's own good.
Reality is Hellebuyck should be traded. The Jets regular season structure made Brossoit look just as good as Hellebuyck. Roll with two Brossoit-tier goalies and hope one of them gets hot come playoff time. Literally cant be worse than what Hellebuyck does

Why would salary matter? So what if skinner makes less, he is an AHL goalie.

It matters because you can spend that money elsewhere on your roster. If you're going to get below par goaltending it's better to spend 2.6 million on it rather than 8.5 million, Skinner has been to a Cup Final, the Jets not so much.

Hellebuyck is going to cost himself the #1G position on Team USA. Its Oettinger's to lose now.
It should've been Otter's already, but for some reason nobody wanted to have that conversation after just 2 awful playoffs. Third times the charm apparently.

Im sure Hellesuyck will put up another .920+ start to the regular season and the goldfish here will be saying how great he is again in time for the Olympics.

Realistically, with Daccord finally declaring American, theres probably at least 5 if not more American goalies id take over Helle

This is exactly the Leafs problem with the core 4. Cant pay for better depth when youre paying 4 players a 100 point salary but get 60 point performance in the playoffs

Reality is nobody is taking a soon to be 32 year old, $8.5m goalie for the next 6 years, with question marks of whether or not he can start for you in the playoffs. If you're trading him, you're doing it at least 2-3 years ago. Now, the Jets are stuck with him, good or bad.

Regular season he is the best in the league. Buffalo should offer the world for him so they can finally move up in the standings. Making the playoffs would be an amazing accomplishment after a decade of yuck.

Ehh theres enough teams with shit for brains management (Pittsburgh, Edmonton, LA, among others) who would take him thinking theyre getting a good player.

And theres enough teams thatve been goalie graveyards and would take anyone who can give .900 regular season goaltending and just be happy to make the playoffs (Philly, Columbus, Buffalo)... but Winnipeg probably falls in this category too

Even if Hellebuyck puts up a strong game today and they advance. It's just the matter of time before the wheels fall off again. And Dallas will feast on Hellebuyck by putting them out in 5 or 6 games (all depending how badly Hellebuyck crumbles). Tough to beat any team in the playoffs when your goalie is giving up 5 goals a game.

If Winnipeg was willing to do this… I actually think this could be plausible getting back Pekka Lukkanen who is young but a good goalie.

If the jets lose to the blues, I just have a feeling that we’re gonna see an implosion from presidents to potentially on the cusp of the playoffs like the Rangers this season. Out of the Stars, Avalanche, Wild, Blues all those teams can win a lot of games. Utah was right there and maybe (Probably not) Nashville gets their shyt together

.....so if the Blues win today and advance, it's only because they managed to beat the worst NHL playoffs goalie of all time....after seven games?

If a WC2 team manages to win even a single playoff series, I will never fault them for the situation that resulted in them winning or the number of games they took to win it. Even if their opponents just totally self-destruct to lose the series.

It's hard to see Nashville being as bad as they were this year. Even if they aren't the powerhouse many predicted they'd be (myself included), they should at least be a bubble team. Obviously Colorado and Dallas are the real best teams in the division. As much as I'd love to see Winnipeg miss the playoffs, they're regular season merchants much like the Leafs. At the same time though, that is a tough division and overall tough conference.

If they fire Brunette and hire a coach who doesn't want to run a system that only works on paper then we should at least be battling for a playoff spot. Will also depend greatly on what exactly happens with the Dcore.

The difference between the Jets and Oilers is the Oilers have two of the best players in the world, one is among the best players of all time already. They can mask a lot of their deficiencies by just putting those two on the ice and controlling play. You could put a pylon in net and 97 and 29 would still give you a chance to win every night. They also step up big in the playoffs. The Jets don't have anyone close to their level. It almost doesn't really matter whose in net for the Oilers at this point.

He should have an extremely short leash tonight, two meh goals and doneso. In the previous games he earned the right to battle, but if you feel the game slipping away, you have to do something.
