Seem like that is the typical response from posters on the board. Not just you but from all hbboard fans defending poor play from their favorite player. There is method to Hellebuyck's madness.
Perhaps, an injury that we don't know about
That would be worse and selfish. He’s hurting his team out there just playing if that’s the case. There is method to Hellebuyck's madness.

No. But any one shot has a chance to go in and you can’t really pin them to a high danger area or expected goal stat. At least not on a game to game basis. A floater can in that has business going in while the same goalie makes a five alarm save on a breakaway. Stats never tell the whole story. The only ones that matter are the goals after 60 minutes is played.Okay, so all shots have an equal chance of going in? Really? Besides ignoring the advanced stats, helly still has great actual sv% during the regular season too and was also great there. So by what metric is helly not among best in regular season?
How many Cups on MAF’s mask? Helley is horrid every playoffs even after a Vezina winning season. There really is no comparable. He’s the best (regular season) and the worst (playoffs)MAF was worse in 2012
Lmao the Jets are not a different goalie away from a deep playoff run, unless that goalie is someone like Binnington
It’s not one gameyall are overreacting,
2 goals were deflections right outside the blue paint, there isnt a goalie thats stopping those
2 goals were blues player driving alone to the net, you can argue he should have had these but Jets D also deserves some criticism here
Again, look at the numbers.MAF was worse in 2012
Moving on? Sure. Deep playoff run? I dont see itI dunno, the way he looked on goals 3-4-5 last night, with pucks going right through him, I wonder what would have happened if Corrie were in there instead. We might be talking about them moving on.
But it shows you that good goalies can have terrible stretches of play.Yeah, the Fleury comparison isn't a good one.
Hellebuyck's last several playoff years have been on par with Fleury's 2010-2013 playoff numbers, but that stretch for Fleury came right after a cup win and back to back cup finals appearances as a starter.
Fleury did eventually resurrect himself into his 30s, but he also had a cup win and two cup finals runs before his massively awful stretch.
Hellebuyck's first handful of playoff appearances or so weren't bad, but just one trip to the conference finals.
The two scenarios I see for tomorrow:
If he gets shelled and the Jets fans turn on him in-game, I think his days in Winnipeg are over. Chevy would be forced to sell about as low as you can for a reigning back to back Vezina winner. He'll demand a trade and will really need a fresh start somewhere else.
If he plays well - or even if he doesn't but the fans don't turn on him - he resets during the offseason and he's back in Winnipeg for another go (the Jets better start looking under ever rock for a decent backup though).
It’s not one game
It’sa pattern of poor play
Cloutier was bad in the playoffs too. But he was not Vezina level during the regular season. Helleybuck’s high is as the best in the league. His playoff low is the worst. The difference in his level of play is the most by far.Did Dan Cloutier get a nod in this thread
Why would salary matter? So what if skinner makes less, he is an AHL goalie.Skinner is only 2.6 million on the cap, Hellebuyck is 8.5 million.
Though probably there's a fair shot Helle does better in Edmonton because he would have more run support. Give up a bad goal or even two, it's not as big of a deal when you have nuclear bombs upfront like McDavid and Draisaitl who bring it in the playoffs, so that would likely help him a lot.
AVE SV% is significantly lower now due to smaller pads so you can't compare SV% directly.Again, look at the numbers.
Hellebuyck is somehow doing worse than Flower did.
