Hard to believe this is the same goalie... and for 3 years in a row now.

Darcy Kuemper won the cup and was still trash that year. Matt Murray has two cups and isn't exactly a first ballot hall of famer. Antti Niemi won a cup while being garbage the vast majority of his playoff runs.

"Trash" is a little harsh of a word to describe Darcy Kuemper's play that year in my opinion. "Adequate" is the word I'd personally use. "Average" or "mediocre" work too. In the end it was enough - he won a cup, after all. Colorado that year really only needed adequate goaltending, and that's exactly what they got out of him. Not a shred more, however.

It's a misleading stat. It is for the last 20 years for some reason, and also ignores the games the Leafs could have been eliminated but won to keep their season alive (which the stat implies they only once did that).

If you include those games it's a nothing stat. For example since 2023 they won that first round series, won a game against the Panthers facing elimination before losing the next game, came back from being down 3-1 vs the Bruins.

Leafs won more elimination games than lost. See what I mean?
Mmm... No.

I just see a team that can't win the series they lead and can't win the series the trail even when they come back.

I love how optimist you are however!

They are going to win a series within the next week, and won a series 2 years ago.

He led a deep run to the WCF in 2018 (third in GSAx those playoffs) and swept the Oilers in 2021.

Stuart Skinner has had four implosions over seven playoff series. He's the worst playoff goaltender of the modern era. And people who want to talk about him "making it to Game 7" forget that he was losing the Vancouver series pretty much on his own against middling AHL goalie Arturs Silovs and had to be bailed out by Pickard.

Or that he pretty much lost Game 3 of the SCF on his own (Oilers lose by one goal...) after he had poor performances in the first two games.

And when he got to Game 7 he let in an absolute muffin that should've been a routine save on Sam Rinehart. We lost by one goal.

He was also 26th out of 28 goalies in the 2023 playoffs. He pretty much lost the Vegas series on his own. Oilers likely win the Cup that year with a better goalie.

And he currently sits dead last in GSAx.

Haven't watched the series this year, but last year Helly was far from the problem vs the Avs. Sure stats make him look like he was, but the team in front of him was nowhere to be found

League average save percentage that playoff year was .907. He had a .902. Avs won in spite of him.

Their record is 1-12 in games that they have a chance to win the series.
That's the stat.

If you want to discuss their record when facing elimination they yes, that looks better. But there's nothing misleading about 1 win in 13 attempts to end a series. Just like 1 playoff series win in 8 consecutive post-seasons.

So the simple version is: When facing elimination (but not able to win the series) they've done pretty well. But as soon as you add into the mix the opportunity to win it? 1-12.

That is the definition of choking.

That’s why I think it’s a joke this dude smells hall of fame when he’s so underwhelming in the playoffs

The jets have been playing the crap out of him. I don't think anyone has played more than him over the last several years.

This year, he played a ton of games once again, plus the stress of the 4 nations.

I am at a loss why winnipeg doesn't try to reduce his regular season load, especially since they had a huge buffer in the standings this year.

The only thing I can think of is that Connor demands the workload, but it seems so logical to me to reduce his starts and see if that can help him in the playoffs.
I mean the Jets could reduce his starts but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll play better because of it.

Hypothetically speaking, he could have a lower amount of starts in the regular season and still underperform in the playoffs.

This could very well be who he is in the playoffs.. Jekyll and Hyde.
