Skinner is the worst active playoff goalie in the NHL

37 GP / 3.00GAA / 0.881% or so

Yes in a heartbeat since they will probably kick Skinner to the curb this summer
This. It blows my mind how the Oilers haven't tried to get a decent goalie in years if not a decade.
I get it, there are not many goalies to choose from but ANYTHING is better than Skinner or even Pickard. There has to be... 😕

Hellebuyck plays deep in the net and that leaves him vulnerable up high and to tips/deflections. The Blues are taking full advantage of this with lots of traffic in front and bombs from the point. Helly and his teammates need to find a way to mitigate that better. The Blues are owning the net-front currently.

And that’s not to say playing deep in your net is necessarily automatically bad. Many goalies do that, particularly bigger ones, including the Blues backup Hofer. You just have to know the potential risks and mitigate that risk as much as possible.

Binnington is the opposite - plays super aggressive at the top of the circle. It cuts down the angles head on but leaves him vulnerable to east-west plays and backdoor tap-ins. So far, the Blues are mitigating their goalie’s vulnerability better than the Jets are.

My vote goes to Dan Cloutier. He's the Stuart Skinner of the Markus Naslund era in Vancouver. Canucks might have a cup during that time if they had virtually any other goalie in net,

No they wouldn't. Maybe they'd win another series or two but that team wasn't good enough for a Finals run. They were riding one line and this was before the Sedins were good.

I'm a small goalie myself and I hate, hate, hate when the big guys play so deep

Like I get that they can get away with it, and I get that some guys aren't athletic enough to cover the lateral movement when cutting the angles... but why oh why wouldn't you get out and get aggressive when you are as athletic and as strong a skater as Hellybucyck or (in the day) Mike Smith?

They could scare the bejesus out of any shooter if they'd cut the angle more, get out there and compete for gawd sakes!

No it's still Stuart Skinner, but definitely the biggest drop off from regular season in a goalie that I can remember in the past 3 years. Prior to that he had really good playoff stats.

Sounds just like the Avs series last year. The book is out on him

Seems like Binnington is a playoff beast! In the 4 Nations final he saved Team Canada! One of those weird goalies where you don't fully trust him but then he will play pout of his mind and win you a series.

Hellebuyck on the other hand...

Binner is money. Ice in his veins. Not the most technically sound, goes crazy 2-3x/year but he’s clearly mentally strong and tends to step up his game when it really matters. He doesn’t love to win, he hates to lose. Highly competitive.

Would you rather win the Vezina 3 times with no Cup, or one Stanley Cup? I suspect the Vezinas would be more valuable with regards to your career earnings. But I think most hockey players would want their name on the Cup.

So the stars are licking their chops to play a team that may or may not be there? Okay. Weirdo.

Ill call my friends on the Stars and Avs to get an exact quote...

Or maybe you can translate it as the Stars/Avs have their toughest opponent currently which a lot of people agree with.
Hahahaha. You tell me that the avs and stars are licking there chops then say "ill call my friends" like I'm the one who suggested it?

There is a book im ready my kid called Amelia bedelia. She takes everything literally. You could write your own book.

We (Avs and Stars fans) are assuming we will get the Jets next and think that will be an easier matchup than what we currently have. Licking their chops was so much more fun to type than that.

Watching the Jets vs Blues and I am amazed how big of a choker Helleybuck is come the playoffs.

He is probably the best goalie in the NHL since 05 if you look at just regular season hockey.

However, in the playoffs he just sells games and isn't stealing anything for the Jets besides their chances to win a game.

Since 2005, is Helleybuck the worst vezina winning playoff goaltender?
His last 3 years have stunk but his first 4 years in the playoffs were fine.

There's actually another style that Skinner has developed with our out of this world goaltending coach that allows his 6'4 , 569lb frame to cover the least amount of net possible, spend half his time pretending to be Michael Phelps and his moustache performance enhancing drugs lower hockey IQ to levels unseen.
