Nah- gotta ride with the horse you came in on. Maybe if he gets pulled again you think about it for Game 6, but even then it'd have to be another sub .800 type performance.
That's just a generic saying that doesn't apply to all situations. You play the goalie that you think will give you the best chance of winning. Who cares what he did in the regular season.

OP was maybe born in 2005 so that's when history started in his opinion?
I'm biased viewing the world like that myself.

I think it is just widely considered when old and new era split happened. You can't really compare anything in a salary cap league to one without, not to mention changing ties to shootouts. Game fundamentally changed in 2005.

If we look at it from the angle of their play from the season that won them their first Vezina, Rinne and Ullmark might top the list for now. Hellebuyck is a couple more implosions from sealing it though.

Hard to explain what happens to Helly during playoffs. He’s just not the same guy. And the Jets rely on Vézina Helly to play their style of game. They take risks for offence expecting him to make the big (key) saves. It gives them a huge advantage offensively because other clubs can’t play a game exchanging high danger chances. Jelly will almost always nest that other goalie. But come playoffs he’s different. The Jets play their high octane, trade chances, style and without Vézina Helly making the big stops it’s an ugly result.

Been saying it for a few years, the current Jets are what people think the Leafs are. In the past 3 years they have won 4 playoff games total. And they won the first game in all 3 series.
Leafs are still the masters of choking, they brought the art to another level.

Now 1-12 in series clinching games.

Jets can't touch them.

used to be 8o8rovsky but he turned it around in past few years

yes now He77ebuyck is the guy

Vasilevskiy and Bobrovsky seem like the only exceptions to this one, yes.
I dunno I watched Marc Andre Fleury string together a few absolutely horrific years in a row. You guys remember that Philadelphia series with Bryzgalov?

Or vs Montreal in 2009.
Difference is all of these guys have cups

It's a misleading stat. It is for the last 20 years for some reason, and also ignores the games the Leafs could have been eliminated but won to keep their season alive (which the stat implies they only once did that).

If you include those games it's a nothing stat. For example since 2023 they won that first round series, won a game against the Panthers facing elimination before losing the next game, came back from being down 3-1 vs the Bruins.

Leafs won more elimination games than lost. See what I mean?

The jets have been playing the crap out of him. I don't think anyone has played more than him over the last several years.

This year, he played a ton of games once again, plus the stress of the 4 nations.

I am at a loss why winnipeg doesn't try to reduce his regular season load, especially since they had a huge buffer in the standings this year.

The only thing I can think of is that Connor demands the workload, but it seems so logical to me to reduce his starts and see if that can help him in the playoffs.
