Connor Bedard Or Patrick Kane?

Which player would you choose in a draft?

Who would you rather have - Crosby or next year’s first overall pick?

So... Bedard? Isn't he supposed to be the latest Crosby?

I guess the ship has sailed on that. It seems his stock has fallen quite a lot.

What’s funny about this thread is that you have a bunch of people ridiculing the premise of the poll, and yet it looks like every Blackhawk fan, who presumably have watched both players way more than anyone else, have voted for Bedard.

I think if I had made this poll in the summer of 2023, Bedard would have won... or at least it would have been close.

Summer of 2024, it wouldn't have been ridiculed.

To be fair, I did state that it should be assumed Kane has the career he's actually had. It's hard to pass on a career like that. Maybe I should have said, "assume Kane becomes as good as he turned out to be" instead. If Kane starts in 2023 with CHI, maybe his career never ends up as good as it has turned out to be.

I think you are misunderstanding me. It is a perfectly legitimate poll as is. The only reason the results are what they are is that a bunch of people who don’t actually watch the two players regularly are just defaulting to Kane’s resume. Those of us that have actually watched both enter the league know that Bedard has been every bit as impressive as Kane so far, if not better.

Who would not take the sure thing hall of famer clutch playoff performer career?
Bedard might become slightly better, but he is no Crosby. So you take Kane 10 times out of 10.

For me as a huge fan of both who has watched 99% plus of both of their careers (until Kane left the hawks) it’s because I think it’s nearly a guarantee that Bedard will be the better player. He has aspects to his game that Kane still doesn’t have. He’s kept up with Kanes production in a far worse situation. Kane was on teams that put up an average of 30% more production, while not having to carry the load. It’s more about their skill set than anything though, not the data evidence. Bedard is going to work on his game on both sides of the puck. He is as good at seeing the ice as anyone, has a better shot than Kane, and has some grit to his game. I think he sees the ice as well as Kane already, and has kanes hands in passing, which is what Kane did best. He has all of those other things going for him on top of it.

Kane's had a hell of a career, but he built his solid reputation off being clutch in the playoffs. For the regular season, it took the Hawks getting Panarin (in the season after that 3rd cup) for him to legitimately challenge for MVP of the league.

For an example, Kane had multiple hattricks in the playoffs, one against Vancouver in 2009 (?) and another to knock out the Kings in 2013. He didn't score a hattrick in the regular season until 2016, and he entered the league back in 2007.

As much as I love Kaner, I think people instantly think of that clutch performer roofing backhanders bar down in the playoffs, and not what he actually was for most of his tenure with the Hawks.

Why? No one knows how is career is going to unfold.
I don’t think you would feel that way if you watched him play on a game to game basis. I don’t think you’d find many people who do agreeing with you save those who are too biased to care about.

Looks like majority agree with me as Bedard has 7 votes here.

I see that. I believe it’s more due to lack of watching Bedard than anything else. As far as posters I recognize on the hawks sub forum, I see it’s 7-2 in favor of Bedard.

I don’t think it represents a favoritism toward Bedard, people absolutely love Kane and everything he helped do with the franchise. I think that if you watched both players as frequently as they have, you’d come to the same conclusion. It’s definitely not wishful thinking either as people in this town are extremely negative when it comes to sports.

Who knows though, I’m not trying to convince anyone, there’s no point. I guess we can wait and see.

Calling Bedard magic beans is just wrong though.

Everyone knows Bedard has talent, but you’d be a fool to bet on the unknown when you know exactly how a player will turn out. Bedard very well could turn out better and this may change in 10 years, but knowing what we know about each player. It’s a slam dunk for Kane without hesitation

The issue is Kane in his first few seasons had a ton of help already. I assume Havlat was there, had Toews, etc. Bedard has Donato and Nick Folingo. Rookie Patrick Kane would have struggled on the same roster

It’s not unknown.

Looks like it’s unknown to you

Hopeful that Bedard can turn the franchise around? Bitterness over Kane leaving? It doesn’t really tell much of a story
No Hawks fan is bitter about Kane leaving. It was much more the Hawks organization pushing him out. Kane's alluded a few times to not wanting to leave, but ultimately giving in when Kyle Davidson wanted to shift things to the future and away from the old Hawks era.

Even as a Wing, most of us still love the guy. Hurts sometimes to see him still performing well elsewhere, but there is no ill will.

This is another way off take. If anything, people are mad at the franchise for not wanting Kane here. Literally everyone loves Kane here.

I think you are generally a good poster but a little out of your depth itt.

It’s literally the definition of unknown, no one knows how has career is going to pan out. Will he be a top 5 player in the league? will his career be cut short due to injuries? We don’t know

Well as a person who has seen him play like 130-something games I feel I can say that I’m about 80% sure Bedard will have the better career due to what I’ve seen from both players.

Havlat, Toews, Sharp, Keith, Seabrook, Buff, Campbell, Versteeg, Bolland, Ladd.

Scoring is up league-wide, but that 07-08 Hawks team still outscored this current Hawks squad. The 08-09 team scored a lot more goals.

And I’ll gladly revisit this if that comes true, but for me personally that’s not the case currently.
