Connor Bedard is -84 throughout two seasons…Worst in the NHL

I'm not so sure that's true. Bedard's 5v5 on ice GF/60 is 10th among Hawks (>300 mins). Behind guys like Foligno and Mikheyev. So it's not like he's really having a positive impact on their GF.

He has the worst rel HDCF/60 on the entire team...

There's a huge gap between Bedard's results in Chicago and Carlsson's in Anaheim.

Nobody is arguing Carlsson would be +9 in Chicago, but he wouldn't be -39.

Its very likely he'd be worse than -2, but it's almost certain he'd be way way better than -84.

Bedard is -40 worse than the 10th worst rated player in the last 2 years. It's historically bad.
He's being overplayed which is why I keep bringing up the 20 minutes a night. Anaheim and Columbus both let their guys limit their time until the coach was comfortable those guys were ready to handle more minutes consistently, theyve each met their own struggles in their young careers. Bedard is playing 3 more minutes a night than any other forward on that team, the team themselves bought into the hype and don't seem to have reevaluated where he's currently at. He's put in the worst position to succeed of the bunch so I think it all piles on to make it look worse than it already is

I agree that it's crazy they haven't reduced his minutes or put in place any accountability. He's made the same junior hockey turnovers for 2 years now (with no repercussions), and then ends up getting hemmed into his own zone for an extended shifts period of time. What's worse is that he makes a lot of those turnovers when his line has already been on the ice for 30+ seconds, so they've got no legs to defend. In the rare chances he's able to dance around a dman or two, he's still settling for mostly mid range lower danger chances.

A smart player like him shouldn't need to be benched to know how ineffective that type of hockey is. But for whatever reason he seems locked into that high risk low reward style.

Carlsson doesn't do anything like that, he's just so much more stable and consistent.

The team is in the middle of a rebuild, who cares. Look at any rebuilding team they all suck defensively compared to a real playoff team. I’m not a Hawks or Connor fan.

And Macklin Celebrini, who’s praised for his great two way game, is -30 in only 65 games. It’s almost like playing a ton of minutes in an offensive role on very very bad hockey teams leads to bad +/-.

Bedard has not had a good season, but it sure as hell isn’t because of his +/-
The Sharks, for being a really bad team, have lost a surprisingly high number of one goal games (47 this season if AI can be trusted). I don’t follow the Hawks so I have no idea if Bedard is in a similar position, but Celebrini’s +- has suffered greatly as a result of empty net goals against.

I don’t think the Hawks have established an elite core group yet. Adding good veterans right now (or one older great one) would only serve to move them further from top five draft picks. Sadly for Bedard, I think the pain of being on a horrible club is going to continue for a few seasons more.
I think adding good players is a must, you DONT want to be drafting high.
But otherwise I agree with you, it’s looks like it’s going to be some painful years in Chicago.

The sharks have scored 15G with the empty net and have been scored on 15 times.

Chicago has scored 7 times and scored on 23 times with the empty net.

So no, that’s not the reason for Celebrini’s bad +/- at all.

The sharks are actually tied with the BEST record in the NHL with an empty net in terms of goals allowed vs scored…

Bedard's been (a little) spoiled over his career - both in junior and now in the NHL. After all, who was going to argue with the 2nd coming of Sid? Bedard's pride will be hurt if he gets put on the wing but it would be for the best - until he finds his footing.

Having said that, if you are the Blackhawks, do you really want to piss off a potential superstar who may not want to be there as they SLOWLY rebuild?

It's definitely not an easy decision, but no player can be bigger than the team. If he's not going to buy into what the coach is asking, and they are too afraid of upsetting him to do anything about it, they should trade him for a massive return.

I'm not saying Bedard has refused anything, just that the team has expected nothing from him.

Yup. That sounds right.

Yet another instance of fans piling on Bedard. He's playing on a team in the midst of a rebuild.
There's some truth to it but I can honestly say I am rooting for the kid in a BIG way. Every Canadian is.

I hope he proves ALL of us wrong in his 3rd year - I'll be thrilled to eat a ton of crow.
