Connor Bedard is -84 throughout two seasons…Worst in the NHL

Way way too soon to be declaring anything about Bedard. He has been put in the worst situation possible. I was sad for him when Chicago got that number one pick because it was obvious this supremely talented kid was going to a shit show team that is behind the other rebuilders. No way I'm throwing any kind of shade at him given his circumstances.
Aint that kinds the point of having a draft system?

Carlsson is a significantly better 200 foot player at this point in their careers. He's only -2 over his first 2 years with the Ducks, a team with a -126 goal differential in that span

He's very responsible, especially in comparison to Bedard. He'd for sure have a better +/-. Bedard is obviously impacted by playing on such a bad team, but his constant open ice giveaways and poor defensive zone coverage have created a lot goals for the opponent this year.
Yeah I don't understand that posters reply. It's like he's never seen those two C's play

That's fair.

No one is saying the Blackhawks don't stink. They are as close to an AHL team as you will find in the NHL.

Still, Bedard needs to step up.

What exactly does "step up" mean?

He's 19 years old averaging 20 minutes a night on a dogshit team. The highest +/- on the team is zero. It's a lazy stat-watching reason to criticize his play.

And I say that as a Wings fan who has no love for the Blackhawks and think they shouldn't have been able to draft Bedard anyway.

[mod] Literally said the GA would go down but so would the GF, I understand Carlsson is a more complete player than Bedard, never said otherwise but I don't think you could throw Carlsson onto Chicago and play him 20 minutes a night being a main focal point of the opposition and expect the results Anaheim is getting out of him right now. You guys don't think if Carlsson wasn't more slowly built up and from the moment he touched the ice started playing 1st line minutes he wouldn't be worse than a -2 these last 2 seasons?

I’m hoping for everyone’s sake, especially his, that he can find that spark again. He’s been struggling a ton since his jaw injury in my opinion. Even when he played for Canada last May, he looked bad.

Anyone know what Chicago has in the cupboards for the next season to turn the ship around? He needs at least one veteran player on the team that is an objectively great player, and he’s got nothing close to that right now.

I don’t think the Hawks have established an elite core group yet. Adding good veterans right now (or one older great one) would only serve to move them further from top five draft picks. Sadly for Bedard, I think the pain of being on a horrible club is going to continue for a few seasons more.

Oh no and Macklin Celebrini is -30 in 13 less games. 2 BUSTS!

Hawk fans have consistently told everyone to temper expectations. From day 1 basically. But I don't think Celebrini was ever expected to average a point per game and be a name swirling in the scoring title race by his sophomore campaign like Bedard was. Before the draft lottery I think a lot of people would be expecting Bedard north of 40 goals in both of his first 2 seasons.

Lots of TOI on a bad team. I'm not surprised, though I would've expected Seth Jones to be worse.

Taking Levshunov over Demidov might be the biggest mistake i've seen a team make in a long time, and Im an isles fan who saw them take Michael Dal Colle 4th overall!
Bennett went 4th in that draft...

Levshunov is looking really solid but I agree Demidov probably should have been the pick.

but so would the GF
I'm not so sure that's true. Bedard's 5v5 on ice GF/60 is 10th among Hawks (>300 mins). Behind guys like Foligno and Mikheyev. So it's not like he's really having a positive impact on their GF.

He has the worst rel HDCF/60 on the entire team...

There's a huge gap between Bedard's results in Chicago and Carlsson's in Anaheim.

Nobody is arguing Carlsson would be +9 in Chicago, but he wouldn't be -39.

Its very likely he'd be worse than -2, but it's almost certain he'd be way way better than -84.

Bedard is -40 worse than the 10th worst rated player in the last 2 years. It's historically bad.

Some will argue it’s an irrelevant stat, but damn..
And Macklin Celebrini, who’s praised for his great two way game, is -30 in only 65 games. It’s almost like playing a ton of minutes in an offensive role on very very bad hockey teams leads to bad +/-.

Bedard has not had a good season, but it sure as hell isn’t because of his +/-

He’s a liability Defensively. The thing is Mack, drasaitl, malkin they are all big centers with exceptional physical attributes. Only Crosby is kinda undersized like Bedard but has legs like tree trunks with exceptional skating. Bedard doesn’t have legs like tree trunks and have generational skating…

??? Bedard is 17 years old here btw
