Evgeni Malkin's 2009 Conn Smythe has been awarded a bye week and will be exempt from Round 2 due to an odd number of participants remaining.

Explanation: As some may remember, in the Hart Trophy Tourney, the bye week was awarded to the season with the highest winning percentage, which would have been Brad Richards. While his smythe wasn't the worst, it wasn't at the top of most people's lists like McDavid's 2021 season and it simply felt strange to award it to him. Because of this, I decided to do a random choice generator for the remaining candidates many believed had a shot to win the whole tournament: 03 Giguere, 09 Malkin, 12 Quick, and 15 Keith. I understand there's no perfect way to award bye weeks given all matchups aren't created equal, but the only alternative I could think of was to create a poll to decide which season deserved the bye week, which would basically be a premature poll for the winner of this tournament. It may seem a bit silly but this was the best compromise I could come up with. Hope it doesn't ruin the tournament for anybody (also: sorry to Justin Williams and his fans).

Giguere over Thomas is the only one I have a problem with.

Great poll series though dude

The only thing I have a problem is OP's font color choice lol. That hurts my eyes.

Giguere > Thomas definitely makes sense to me, but there were some really tough round 1 matches where great runs get eliminated early, and Thomas is one of those.

I didn't vote for all the winners, but all the non-winners I voted for I figured was like a 50/50, so I don't think there's any big upsets so far. Looking forward to rest of it.

Malkin with the bye 100% makes sense too.

Justin Williams got SMOKED lol

I know HF has its points of departure with the general hockey media (despite of course basing a lot on the media awards votes) and skews more stats and less usual hockey narrative and all, but damn...

I agree with all the results except for Niedermayer, and that one was a very close vote.
