Space tourism would be horrible for the planet, like tourism is for coral reefs.

If there were explorations of the moon, it would become the next mount Everest.
Littered with trash, bodies of those who didn't make it, and feces and urine.
Space travel for exploration makes sense. Just to get your rocks off, but at the expense of the planet? I don't understand how this is good.

It's spatially significant, but I am not as impressed by these stinking multi billionaires zapping their ultra rich glorified asses off to the outer edges of our atmosphere as I am by the dude responsible for this marvelling technology...
Rest my case!
There's no good reason for you or me to fly into space. Nor for J**f B***s for that matter.

What if we can eventually offload large volumes of people from the planet?
The ultimate policy would be something like once you leave you can't come back.
A 1 way exodus would perpetually save the planet.
It's easy to use carbon capture to counteract the damage caused by rocket launches.
The amount of fuel used for a day trip is huge, but it isn't that bad compared to a lifetime of usage.

The end game will be when launch costs are comparable to a college education.
Every one leaving for space takes out a 40-80k loan, and gets hired for large sums of money to work off world.
People are radically overestimating how long it'll take.
Wouldn't be shocked if recruiting people to go up is gonna be a challenge as early as 2040.
It won't be long before people who are intellectually/physically capable of going to space will be able to provided they sign a hefty contract.
There will always be a huge incentive for staying for long periods of time.
The notion of day trips to space isn't remotely in line with reality. 5 year contracts will be the minimum.
It's very reasonable to have a 100,000 people on the moon by 2040.
It doesn't look that way, but that is entirely in the realm of possibility.
We're in the 21st century, we finally have 21st century rocket technology.
We're on the verge of a revolution. No longer is it hard to get there. All of our space technology developed over the last 70 years has been fixated on the premise that we're always gonna have serious mass constraints when in space.
If we can get there with a sizeable level of industrial might we can use lunar regolith to built tent cities in rapid succession.

Life expands its reach to maintain it's survival. Humans are made to compete and expand. This isn't something limited to NHL franchises.
If you don't go upwards , humanity will be forced to do horizontal expansion which will destroy even more the planet.
Where would you expand to? Most people would rather live in Florida than Antarctica. And in Florida rather Miami than the Everglades.

The big picture being Bezos and Musk get to exploit space travel for LARGE profit while holding any competition down and basically ruling the world. In other words, Earth 2.0

Don't think many companies are that interested in space exploration right now, at least your mom and pop shops
Don't see the problem here, when cars first were mass produced they were all Model T, no?
What mom and pop stores? The likes of Amazon and Walmart have wiped them all out over the last 20+ years. The difference with cars is Ford didn't also put every other industry on the ropes before making cars. In the future we'll all be slaves to Amazon, Walmart and about 5 other mega-corporations
