I tend to agree with the people bringing up the shootout. Richter was prone to bad goals sometimes. But say what you want about him, the guy was money on penalty shots and breakaways. The guy would likely be the best in the game in the shootout.

Lundqvist doesn't need a cup to get his # retired. Most wins is enough. Add in most shutouts, potentially most games played (almost certainly). If he wins a cup, he's the the best, indisputably. I think he'll get one in the next 3-4 years tbh, but that's likely just optimism.

Congrats Hank.

I was too young to see Richter in his prime. Lundqvist is the best Ranger I have had the pleasure of watching.

My all time favorite player. Sad I missed this one (****ing work) but I'm stoked he's done it nonetheless. Here's to 300 more. :handclap:

I also feel fortunate to get to watch his entire career. He will get to 302 ROW fast than Richter did.

Stove, pls. You know that's not allowed here.

Grats Hank! You got there pretty quickly. Plante is the fastest in 528 games played I believe. Not too shabby Hank.

Fixed!!!!:yo::yo::yo:

I'll take him over everyone including Roy, Hasek, Sawchuk, Plante…

To those talking about SO wins…how about an asterisk for every win where he was the only one worth a damn for 60 minutes? For every loss?

I hope this is not a serious post.

We won that game 3-2 in OT. I actually missed that game and was shocked that we won since we sucked so bad at the time.

Ah right. My bad. Although we played Detroit 3x as many times as usual this year due to the new divisions. Regardless, kudos to Hank on the 2x SO vs. Det and 300W!

You're not comparing the right things. I'm pretty sure when Richter played, a loss in OT was just a loss, so it wasn't in a separate category. I have no idea how many losses he had in OT but it's not really relevant.

The point is that Lundqvist gained 48 wins after Richter would have just had a tie.

Right, but teams played for the tie much more then than now. You can't really penalize Lundqvist for playing in a system that guarantees a win to someone. He still won and his OTL's are comparable to Richter's ties (Richter had more).

29th goalie in NHL history to do it. 11 are in the HHOF. And of those 29, Lundqvist has the 3rd best career winning percentage (behind only Brodeur and Osgood).

This. It reminded me of Jeter home ring on his 3000 hit

Or the Seahawks, famous for their 12th man fanbase, scoring after 12 seconds in the Super Bowl, first TD with 12 minutes to go, first score in the second half after 12 seconds and Russell Wilson threw for 206 yards (Seattle's area code).

That's astounding (11 of 29). Would've thought higher than that.

Still, barring injury, I don't see why Lundqvist wouldn't be a 400+ wins goaltender with an outside chance at 500.

That percentage (11 of 29) will be higher as some of them become HHOF-eligible (e.g., Brodeur, Hasek. Luongo and Lundqvist are trending there). Though, no doubt, several guys who won 300 will never sniff the Hall. The 400 win club is more exclusive, and might become the new gold standard because of the shootout's effect on win totals. 8 of 10, if you include Brodeur now, are in the Hall. Only Cujo and Osgood missed that cut.

Cujo and Osgood are two guys that will always be debatable. Can't say I ever thought Osgood was all that great, he just played for great teams. I'm sure Red Wings fans might have an entirely different perspective on that.

I think Cujo should be in, though. He played for some crappy teams and still put up pretty good career numbers.

November 21, 2013 against Dallas 41 saves, 23 in the 1st period.

Makes sense, IMO that was a top 10 game for him in his career, if not top 5. I'm shocked at how badlv we got outplayed in that game considering we've rarely been out-possessioned and outshot like that since the start. The 2nd game was a lot more par for the course. Was proud of the team in the 2nd game. When the 4th line is the only one getting chances against you, you're doing something right.
