100% agreed but I think the counterargument would be if Kurri tied the record and then the format went back to the old format, would it still be viewed the same?Why not? When the playoffs expanded initially from 2 rounds, the records all fell from extra games, but they were still the new records. Leach's 19 goal playoff came when the playoffs had a best of 3 preliminary round where his Flyers ended up with a bye, so they only played in 3 rounds, and Kurri's came in 4 rounds, but a best of 5 first round, but Kurri is still the co-holder. Context will always be needed for records, but it shouldn't stop the records from falling. Just as scoring 200 points in the regular season today would be better than anything Gretzky did, but wouldn't get your name on the regular season scoring record.
