Now I don't have any skills whatsoever at photoshop but I was reading a lot about Seattle / Pudget Sounds contributions during WWII and how the Boeing industry really put forth the industrial growth in Seattle and the area both during WWII in manufacturing fighter planes and post war with Boeing being one of the world leaders in producing jet lines. Then I looked at my mock up Canucks Avatar - purported to be Johnny Canuck as an aviator - and thought hey that logo might actually work if you remove the vintage stick logo for the googles. Since the logo and jersey concept was made by John Slabyk in 2007 https://twitter.com/humanot I didn't want to alter his image.

Change the colour schemes obviously to more Seahawk / Mariner style and you have a decent mock up that doesn't feel too ECHL like.

Thoughts on just the name alone Seattle Airmen - if the jersey doesn't appeal?

Well, having the Canucks logo in the goggles might be a problem...

Edit: just noticed that you noted this. Sorry.

Also, the V formed by the neck of the pilot is meant to represent Vancouver, I believe.

I know that but it's not like it doesn't follow the look of a bust or the collar line. It's no different than the logo for the Oilers and Bruins both being round so it must be an O for Ottawa right?. As i didn't want to alter his image - and my photshop skills are bad anyway - you could remove the blue inverted triangle to make it less V like, personally I like the idea of a logo being a different shape like a shield. We have a ton of O shaped logos and C logos in the league.

May I present Dan Quayle.

And the San Jose Sharks logo also doesn't mean it's Vancouver either.

I prefer the Seattle Shawn Kemps, to be honest.

I get what you're saying, but that white V is very strongly contrasted to the background, and I believe the original designer's stated intention - expressed somewhere, though I can't recall where - was for this to be a V for Vancouver. It feels very prominent in this case.

Side note: A++ for relevant and non-potato-based reference to the former VP. :handclap:

I'm cool with the logo in its original state not being the best but I like the aviator head and goggles and how the name Airmen could also tie in Seattles air industry for the better part of a century. How does Airmen rank with other suggested names: Mammoths; Rain; Kraken?

I like that jersey template, assuming the obvious color change. Would look just as good and less dated without the side patches.

The name Airmen is a good one, but what does it mean to Seattle?

Seattle / Washington was a major manufacturer / employer for the US military during WWII http://www.historylink.org/index.cfm?DisplayPage=output.cfm&file_id=1664 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Seattle

The B-17 Flying Fortress was manufactured by Boeing in Washington for WWII I believe. I thought about a logo playing off the plane however the league already has the Jets and I'm not sure another aircraft logo would be ideal. So I think the Airmen works as well, much like the Tuskagee Airmen images that sprung up around then too.

I think it would be cool to have the sound of P-51D mustang sounds reverberate through the arena during pre game intros or after goals or something.

Of course this takes the whole marine element of major Seattle based teams and flips it to the air. LOL

Personally i think if they went this route that they should just reincarnate the Seattle Pilots, which I think has a pretty awesome old school look, just would need a bit updating to be cool.

I sort of like the romanticism of WWII pilots - airmen - versus commercial airline pilots.

Also I prefer a team name that was pluralized without having an :s: on the end. I believe the Avalanche, Wild and Lightning are the only three teams that don't end in :s:

Do not like. Way too Vancouver. Even if you changed the scheme, you still have what looks like an MLS logo.

Airmen isn't a bad name, though.

Sorry, but the decapitated aviator logo is hideous.

Your "decapitated" argument for a logo looking bad is wrong; unless you feel you dislike the above logos as well. Thanks for your input. The logo/concept picture I posted in the OP was an idea to play off of. Obvious it was designed by a Canucks fan for the Canucks SEVEN years ago but the aviator logo was on my mind with the idea for Seattle Airmen. Thanks again for your constructive criticism.
