Well, he certainly earned a raise but not one that big… maybe if he played just as well in about 25 full games this season.

Chevy’s to do list just keeps growing.

What a mismanagement issue, all they needed was to play him for 1.5 more games (90 minutes) and he would of been an RFA instead of a UFA.

So now we have who as a backup? Or is Helle gonna play all 82?
this is hilarious because that's what people were saying last year after we signed comrie

Ya but he proved his worth over the year…play him for 2 more games at the end of the year and sign him RFA for cheap this year.

Unless Chevy is bringing in a better goalie to help helle take the load….what’s the plan?

who knows if they would have even qualified him if he became an rfa with arb rights...

Terrible work by Chevy. Kid earned his starts last year and Helle was off his best and still they ran him into the ground.

Winnipeg is never going to be an FA destination, especially when it isn' winning, so it has to win on the margins, and optimize every asset and move.

And here it gave up a solid backup who could have provided at least 20 - 30 games and given Helle some rest, as well as a clearly beloved teammate, because they couldn't squeeze him into an extra 5 periods over 82 games.

Chevy will blow this one off, but they all add up. I can't see the Jets lockerroom being happy to see Eric go, but I can certainly see more of them eying the exits.

Well last year was a pleasant surprise. Still uncertain if he really turned a corner or not though as I remained nervous all through his starts last year even when many were confident in him. I do wish him all the best though and am happy he received more money.

Agree with others on the mismanagement of this from the TNSE perspective. Down Helle year, we were long out of the playoffs pragmatically speaking if not mathematically so, the extra time on ice would have been very easy to come by with negligible impact and possibly even the benefit of a better draft spot.

Who knows but for a minimal investment of 90 more minutes the Jets would of had more options.

Looking at the west right now, the Jets have to go through:

1. Avs
2. Vegas
3. Oilers
4. Wild
5. Calgary
6. Nashville
7. LA
8. Dallas

And the rest to even have a chance at playoffs let alone making a run at winning with this group.

But 3 more years of Chevy!!!

Maybe - JUST MAYBE, the Jets did it as a favor to the player?

I find it hard to believe the organization would not understand the requirements to keep him under team control and not do anything about it.

Maybe this was the plan all along and the team purposefully kept his starts down to allow for it? Maybe its not likely but it's sure as hell more sensible than to miss playing him 90 more minutes to retain rights.

Oh shit and losing Comrie has made that SO MUCH MORE DIFFICULT!

The guy had a nice, tiny run of games over his pro career. God people are dramatic around here :P

At least we have Berdin and Rittich on a cheap on-ways next year!

Makes perfect sense to me (something that you should find alarming). It would explain why Comrie lied through his teeth as to the state of the dressing room. Probably had a deal with Chevy to let him go UFA or he would dish all the dirt to the media. I think you've hit the nail on the head here, Jet. Or got nailed with a hit to the head, something like that.

The best thing about getting big save Dave is that we don't have to play against him anymore as I always felt like he had our number. I haven't reviewed actual splits to see if this is accurate or not but it is absolutely my perception when I hated when he started against us.
