Will the games still be blacked out if I purchase ESPN + in the NY/NJ area?

I know it's part of negotiating in public, but pretty extreme claims of low viewership by Comcast
(refers to Knicks, NYR, NYI, NJD games I assume)

“We don’t believe that our customers should have to pay the millions of dollars in fees that MSG is demanding for some of the most expensive sports content in the country with extremely low viewership in our markets,” the company said. “According to our data, customer viewership of the MSG networks is virtually non-existent. Almost 95% of all customers who received MSG over the past year did not watch more than 10 of the approximately 240 games it broadcast.
“Additionally, up to 80% of customers didn’t watch any MSG content at all each month in that timeframe. We have successfully negotiated thousands of agreements with programmers and reached agreements in almost every instance and are disappointed that MSG decided to pull their content rather than reach a fair agreement"

Yea I’m screwed now..... I pay 160-170 a month for cable and now I have to stream ranger games. Total BS
Was going to switch to Fios but I’m not in a zone for it, but my neighbor 4 houses away has it, so go figure that one. So so dumb

Just an observation on all of this:

I cut the cord a long time ago, and honestly, when NYR games have been difficult to find on stream, I just skipped watching. I’m pretty sure that the day that I find it difficult to find a nightly stream, hockey will cease to be a viewing hobby for me.

I think this is something that NHL execs should be aware of. People have so much more access to entertainment, and with technology bringing us new sports, new communities, and new ways to spend our hobby time, the NHL could see it’s engagement slip if it’s not in enough fans faces regularly. I have niece’s and nephews that play hockey, but are not nearly as dialed in to the sport as me and their parents were at their ages. Even when I watch games with them, they rarely make it through the whole game, and if they do, they’re on their phones or iPads during 90% of it, engaging in other non-hockey content.

I was always asking for jerseys, and to go to games at their age, but for a group of kids that play in hockey leagues, hockey outside of playing it, and playing on PS or Xbox, just doesn’t consume them as much.

Add on to that most late Gen Xers, and Millenials have cut the cord, and hockey may not be reaching the critical mass with the kids of those parents to keep the sport growing. Allowing major market teams to have such a silly bar for access as cable TV today is like forcing people to have a NYTimes subscription to be able to watch games.

I haven't cut the cord and can't see myself doing it anytime soon. We pay a lot ($230) because we have five boxes in the house, but we also bundle our internet. We like having the TV there for the kids and for our guests. We also get several services like HBO Max, Peacock, and some others included for free and our Netflix is also included in our bill. If I just did the internet and then paid for each subscription service I use it wouldn't even be that much of a savings.

On topic, Comcast f***ing sucks and I hate them. Unfortunately they're the only game in town where I live unless you want DSL internet (literally at 800kbps during peak hours...).

And what options for streaming?

I may occasionally log into son's Altice, watch at a Fios friend's, or local pubs...
Honestly, I got no idea. I didn’t even know this was goin down til yesterday when it was blacked out. There was almost no warning. They flashed a banner on the bottom once then bang, no more MSG

That’s the same shit I’m dealing with

Doesn’t Altice only allow you to watch some channels through their app if you are connected to the same internet?

Unless you have a VPN to your son’s internet, I’m not sure if this is possible.

thanks, haven't tried yet
will also check into MSG GO using his Altice credential

I have Netflix, ($14), Hulu ($6), and FuboTV ($65). All through internet, no cable. FuboTV with a Westchester billing address gets me ESPN, MSG, and SNY. I recently watched MSG at a Pocono, PA vacation rental by logging into my FuboTV account on the smart tv , so I think it's based on billing address not local address.

While it is off limits to post links on here, it is not difficult to find streams of games. Lots of info out there, just have to do some research.

so true. I have Spectrum and three MSG channels yet not MSG2. When the Knicks are on the Rangers get bumped to MSG2. I miss the game and am in an “oh well” frame of mind. This is like the early 80’s.

Interesting.. I live in the poconos. The big cable provider is "blue Ridge cable" which got rid of MSG over a decade ago .. but even in the Poconos I've been blacked out of Rangers games for nationally broadcast games or NHL.tv - it's real disappointing. We've had to change over to Direct TV which is whatever but we get MSG but get blackout of KNICKS games.. it's ridiculous.
