No. But the effort always has to be there.
I think what people are maybe not appreciating is that the effort is almost always there (other than the odd game). The difference is that when you are playing another good team, that team can make it look like your effort is subpar. If the leafs play Florida in the second round, it will likely be 6 or 7 games of absolute grinding. None of those games will look anything remotely like tonight's game, but I think everyone knows that.

Shutout! f*** you Columbus!
The Blue Jackets have been forever an annoying thorn on our side since a decade at least.

I remember in the last game of the 2016-17 season against the Jackets at home , the Leafs knew they would play in the playoffs. But they didn’t know their first round opponent yet.

They didnt know if they would face the highest ranked team in the NHL standings that year, the capitals or the 2nd seed in the Atlantic division, the senators . If they won they would face Ottawa in the fifth round of the battle of Ontario. Otherwise if they lost, they would fly to Washington and face the best team un the league.

The Leafs took a 2-0 lead in the second period but the Jackets scored three goals before the end of the same period. They held the 3-2 lead until the end and won. Leafs lost, so no battle of Ontario, but a matchup with the president’s trophy winner instead. We all know how it ended in the playoffs, the Leafs lost in 6 games to the top seed of the league.

All these blowout games against them. And no one forgot the frustrating playoff loss to them in the 2020 Covid bubble playoffs. Andersen really allowed backbreaking goals in that decisive game 5

You said it'd be a high scoring affair. Last time I checked 5 total goals is below the NHL average and the O/U line was 6.5. Good job being wrong yet again.
You are indeed partially correct. I said: "I think the Leafs will score a lot in this one as Columbus is absolutely bleeding goals lately, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Leafs give up a bunch of goals also."

Turns out the Leafs were even better than I thought. I'll re-adjust for next game.

Anytime Stolarz starts, you can not predict Leafs will give up a bunch of goals. You just can't. You should be surprised when he gives up "bunch of goals" if anything.

Actually you said "I think there will be a lot of goals in this game. Columbus has been bleeding goals against lately like crazy."

So wrong again as usual. 👍

Robertson on a ~19 goal pace this year. He also had a brutal 1st 20 games or so when I don't think he potted a goal; he could have potted 25 this year with some better luck and better play.

I thought he had a decent night in both ends of the rink and I don't think he did his usual one silly thing per game. I don't believe that Berube is going to start him in the playoffs, but on the other hand, I don't believe Berube will leave him in the pressbox if goal scoring looks like an issue.
