I missed the game so I just looked at the goals.

Lots of goals against.

On the first one Tippett stormed by Monahan and Werenski. On the second there was a high tip and Werenski guessed the other way, turning away from the rebound. On the third, the forwards didn't pick up the third man, leaving the defenders defending three. On the fourth, the Flyers happened to get a perfect tip-in on a 6v5, no way to defend everyone there. And on the fifth, Sillinger was napping for a second to give up the 2v1. He was in fine position and then just fell asleep.

- Really rough night for the Werenski-Severson pairing with the number of goals against. But on those goals at least, I did not spot an issue with Severson, he was on his guy. After a little more looking into it, it appears things fell apart defensively after Werenski came back and wasn't moving very well.

- The Sillinger in 3v3 experiment is off to a rough start. He was on the ice for all three OT goals against in this latest set of three OT losses. The two last week and then tonight. I saw the complaints after the first two games about Sillinger in OT but I couldn't tell if he did anything wrong from the goal replays. This time it's in the goal replay, he f***ed up.

- I love Ronny's little pass to Marchy in front for the goal. I can't believe he's the guy who keeps shocking me with his passing. Sign him fast please.

I was so annoyed at Sillinger for reacting so late to Provorov losing the puck which led to the goal. In the moment I actually couldn’t fathom why any professional hockey player would react as late as he did. This morning I’m a bit less annoyed but it was still pretty atrocious.

When the oxygen gets low it usually shows mentally before physically. And Cole gets gassed.

We're really short on skilled forwards if that's who we're putting out there for 3 3v3 shifts each OT. For some reason he's playing more OT than Fantilli, and Ronny hasn't gotten a shot at it yet.

This team felt different during the first 10 games or so. Recently it feels like the “same old Jackets.”
Other than Monahan, and his overall play and position as a center, even as good as guys like Marchenko and KJ have played, IMO Chinakhov is our most impactful forward at this point, and him being out is significant and noticeable.

Lacks hockey IQ/vision, whatever you want to call it. Both offensively and defensively. Added to him being an average skater, at best, and you have issues.

And NO these aren’t things that are magically guaranteed into improving simply over time. I’d argue his skating hasn’t actually improved, he’s just gotten into adequate physical condition for a pro athlete.

Give me more Malatesta and Pyyhtia. Sillinger should be playing on the 4th line for Kuraly, and he should be a healthy scratch.

Sometimes in the corners Severson looks like left-handed player playing with right-handed stick
I’m looking forward to seeing Severson win a board battle someday. If him doing so was a drinking game, I’d be sober for the whole season.

OT is probably the most effective situation for Fantilli’s game.

Its a point and we are doing much better than expected but still need to clean up games. Still a young team but our skill depth is now showing as Olivier of all people hit 3v3 time and I am one of the biggest Olivier fans out there. While some of our skill players are still developing its gonna be interesting to see how that cap space is used this summer

Just curious, what about Voronkov's game do you think would translate to 3v3? Feel like his game is best suited for tight spaces and his lack of speed would get exposed in that environment

puck control, making passes and being a big body to get around feels nice. Even if you ignore all that you could even simplify it and say why not try different bodies when what we are putting out there isn't getting the job done

the more post game interviews of Olivier’s I watch, the more I truly believe he will be an NHL coach someday.
Agree. I’ve said before his interviews are excellent and enjoyable. He generally avoids the normal player interview cliches - “be harder on the puck”, “tighten up our game”, “more north-south”, etc - and provides thoughtful insights and observations. Best interviews since Mark Letestu. Maybe a coach or the next Jody Shelley.

He's 100% heading to the next generation Shelley at this point...something about enforcers being media darlings too apparently
