Waddell on Futa today, they were asking Donnie about off sheets this summer. Waddell says Montreal has his 2nd, he goes but I have 2 firsts this year. Watch for something.

Columbus thinking about offer sheeting someone. Must been talking trade with Montreal to get his 2nd back

Futa show today was pretty good actually. Bukala was on after Waddell. Telling draft interview stories.

Last year STL traded a 2nd and a 3rd for their 2nd back and a 5th so they could make their offersheets.

Montreal already has 2 1sts, 2 2nds, 3 3rds, and 2 4ths, so I'm not sure moving up on a mid pick would be the target, though

The way that you're describing it, it just sounds like he's saying that he will try to make draft day trades to improve the team and not like an insinuation that he'll do it via offer sheet. But I haven't seen or heard the interview.

More likely they are looking at the 1st + 3rd OS range since they still have their 3rd rounder. That compensation range will be probably be around 4.8M to 7.1M, only reasons they would need their 2nd is if they want to offer less or more than that

That's less a rumour and more like Waddell saying that he could reacquire that 2nd if he wanted to pursue an offer sheet and needed it. Which is obvious considering St' Louis re-acquired their 2nd, but doesn't mean anything.

I may be wrong, but I don't think any offer sheets have been signed by arbitration eligible RFAs. So, I would assume that if there are any offer sheets this summer, it will be for a non-arb eligible RFA.

There are 24 players who fit that criteria:

Some of these players will be signed before July 1st, and some aren't good enough to attract an offer sheet.

Also keep in mind that with the rising cap, many teams will have the cap space to match.

I could be wrong, but my recollection was players aren't eligible for an OS if they are arbitration eligible?

Bourque and Knies seem like the obvious targets

They can only sign 50 prospects too. I doubt they keep all of them.

Am I missing the actual rumor here? Nothing you wrote mentions any rumor about a Cbus and Mtl trade. This would be speculation, more so, on your part.

You are wrong. All RFAs except 10.2.c Rare eligible for offer sheets.

You are mistaken FF, it's players that are being taken to, or have elected for arbitration that become ineligible for offer sheets.

It feels like with the cap increase, very few offer sheets would succeed this offseason. I could see CBJ going after Knies, but that's about it... I almost said Johnston, forgot he extended already!

I could actually see it working out the other way, with teams making a lot of offer sheets where they would give up a 2nd in compensation. Just because the other team could match, doesn't mean they necessarily should.

Montreal probably trades Jackets back their 2nd with Habs own second for another first.
