They want a top two d-man, not just any D-man. And they aren't willing to part with their best prospects. Jarmo think this is NHL16?

I think Jarmo is ready to take a flying leap off the Main Street Bridge.

More than ready. Someone should lock him up for the night.

McNabb for Johansen!!!

Seriously, Columbus needs to just sit tight and not do anything stupid right now. Desperate GMs do stupid deals.

I'd rather Kopitar. McNabb has actually shown up so far. :naughty:

Well, I didn't want to short change Columbus, and they are looking for a top 4 defenseman.

I would do Kopitar for Johansen in a heartbeat. The Kings could definitely reload and build around Johansen, Carter, Doughty and Quick for another couple runs over the next 3-4 seasons.

More and more it is starting to look to me that Kopitar's best days are behind him.

Lombardi wouldn't get near Johansen, like, ever. That was one bitter, public, contract dispute. It made dealing with Don Meehan look like a tea party.

No *** way.

If superstars were traded constantly after cup wins the NHL would be a worst place.
NHLPA has the players interests at heart. Would you want to move every couple of years??

They just blew their second round pick by hiring that sick mind Tortorella.

Incredible. Absolutely incredible.

What?!? Did Vancouver not fire Torts?

Why would there have to be any compensation unless Torts was still employed by the Canucks?

And a 2nd round pick?

I'm at the point where I wonder who would want Torts in the first place, but to have to give assets to get him?

Wow...

EDIT: Just looked it up and and wow, is that a stupid new policy. You get compensated for firing someone? Absolutely ridiculous!!!

It doesn't matter if the team fires him. It only matters if he is still under contract by that team.

I know, I know. Stupid rule. But there it is.

Fired is a mislabeling that the media invented for coaches getting removed from behind the bench.

The coach has a contract to the team and when he's 'fired' he's actually being removed from the coaching position. The team still has the coach under contract and they will either reassign him to do some other task within the organization like scouting or more likely they will simply tell him to go home. But he's still under contract to the team.

As such, you are being compensated for losing an employee, not firing someone.

This came about largely to compensate teams who lose an important employee, often an assistant coach or assistant GM. Because teams didn't get anything out of letting an employee leave for a better job elsewhere, some teams were preventing other teams from talking to their employees, thus blocking some people from getting a promotion. This encourages teams to let their employees look at better jobs elsewhere because they get compensated with a draft pick for their inconveniences.
