There, I just summed up everything I (and you) seem to feel about this into one paragraph.

This doesn't help the millions of posters who suffered cruelly at your collective hands in the past 24 hours.

The upside with Hamilton is #1 franchise d, but i think yall are incorrect in putting his downside at 3/4. His downside is all star offensive specialist.. a perennial 55 pt d man who gets extra time when the team is down.

He's already a great offensive player, the question with Hamilton is whether he will evolve into a player you can trust in any situation. The Bruins played him in every situation this year but i wouldn't say he's trusted in all of those roles.

Hamilton and Murray are the same age and I think that healthy Murray is a better defenseman. If you offer Hamilton $7+ mil. get ready to pay Murray as much next summer. Not a good idea at all.

Until Murray proves he can stay healthy there really isn't anything to worry about concerning him.

A trade is not a realistic option, because Hamilton is a huge part of Boston's future and so they'd demand even more than we'd give for that offer sheet.
I guess you were wrong. Terribly wrong.

I didn't know that you can get a 21 y.o. d-man with a Norris trophy upside and an All-Star floor for a middle 1st round pick and a couple of 2nd's. Probably he's not what you think he is.

To be fair, that might have been a money problem. Calgary might have been the only team that could match Hamilton's contract demands. Let's see how much they gonna pay him, if it's more than $6/year I'd call the Calgary GM stupid. But anyway you obsession with offer sheet looks funny now.

Read James Mirtles twitter. There were better offers for Hamilton, and it's not a conspiracy theory.

In any case, you misunderstand my whole point. Im not saying we should make xxx offer because it is a steal. I said we should get Hamilton for our blueline because he's the player i want, and we are well placed to overpay to get the right player. The only way I'm wrong on this is if Hamilton turns out to not be the right player. You might be right about that but you'll have to wait a couple years to find out.

Hamilton's ask at $5.5 million per year. You were willing to pay $7.3+ million per. That was terrible for many, not just a salary cap, reasons. I won't pay him even this much, he's got too many question marks for me.

Yes and i knew it was above his ask the whole time.
I will be glad to have this discussion in a few years when we find out what kind of player he is.

Well, gosh, sorry. My analysis was predicated on Sweeney having the barest minimum of competence. When you're dealing with a lunatic, sober analysis goes out the window anyways.

But, c'mon now. Seriously? A trade so shocking that the first HF thread went from opened to 1000 posts and closed in thirty minutes and you're treating it as some kind of Glorious Vindication? An event that has the whole of the NHL going "what the ACTUAL ****" hardly qualifies as a victory for your analysis. Indeed, I would call it a severe condemnation thereof.
