Proposal: Columbus and Edmonton

Gavrikov seems like he could be an Interesting target for the Oilers but Kuraly is not needed, a 4C with a 2.5M cap hit for 3 years doesn’t fit the teams cap structure. They’ve got a similar player in Foegele with a similar cap hit for a year less who’s deemed a cap hit so I’d have to think Kuraly is in dump territory himself. Plus we have another similar player in Janmark with half the cap hit for a year who’s currently buried because Oilers are so tight to the cap. Oilers would likely rather a smaller deal around just Gavrikov.

Can cbj fans shed a little more light on what Gavrikov brings.

No, Petrov is one of our top prospects and he's not being moved for a bottom pair dman and a 4th liner and adding a 1st rounder (unprotected no less) is just an insult to that. JP has more value than this too.

It's basically a 1-for-1. Barrie for Gavrikov.
A bottom pairing defenseman that plays 1 minute per game less than Nurse at 5v5.

Columbus has too many RHD as it is.

Peeke + Boqvist + Gudbranson

Blankenberg waiver eligible 2023

Jiricek waiver eligible 2026 but will be NHL ready probably 2023 or 2024.

Blue Jackets aren't making a trade to acquire a RHD, and if they are, they're sending an RHD out in the trade.

Solid proposal. I'm sure there would be negotiations around the margins, especially protections on the 1st, but the end result is what both teams are looking for.

As long as Edmonton can turn around and use the extra cap space to find a solid forward rental, their roster would be undeniably better at a modest cost.
That shouldn't even be up for discussion right now. No way in hell they are a lottery team

2 minutes, but it's not like the teams defense is that good. He's playing that much out of necessity.
He's playing 3:44 a night on the PK(CBJ PK is #10 vs Oilers #27) . Nothing flashy about him and he'll never have the offense that Barrie has but he can eat a lot of minutes that will take the pressure off of Nurse and push Kulak down. Don't want to kick CBJ while they're down but they could definitely use a PP QB like Barrie

2024 1st for Gavrikov. 2025 2nd if he re-signs
Where is the cap space coming from?

The Op value is fair
I would make a coupe small changes. Holland would need to talk to Puljujarvi and if he is willing to accept the 3rd line role keep him and add another prospect instead of Petrov.

To the Jackets
Raphael Lavoie
Yamamoto
2024 1st
Barrie

To Oilers
The OPs suggested players

it's no secret Jarmo has never been a fan of Puljujarvi

I can't see Columbus ever acquiring him as long as Jarmo is there

do agree value is close
Is this a bit overblown, though? There's a big difference between not liking a player at 3rd overall and refusing to ever have that player on your team. Dubois was a better pick, but if Columbus was lower in the draft order, Jarmo may have happily taken JP.

...unless he's expressly stated otherwise.

Also (to the OP), why would Columbus be looking to move a centre without a better one coming back as the centrepiece of a deal?

Barrie is pretty damn important to our PP, I haven’t liked what I’ve seen when they run Bouchard there. I think Oiler fans are underselling what Barrie brings to this team.

2023 draft picks are the most coveted since 2015 McDavid draft. You want an unprotected 2023 1st? Lmao. No GM is going to give an 1st round 2023 draft pick, unless its for a loaded package they cant refuse. And this aint it boss

Its a late 1st round pick and in 2015 there were many firsts traded
1.St. Louis's 2015 1st round pick, Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart and William Carrier for Ryan Miller and Steve Ott.
2.Chicago's 2015 1st round pick and Klas Dahlbeck for Antoine Vermette.
3.Pittsburgh's 2015 1st round pick and Rob Klinkhammer for David Perron.
4.NY Rangers a 2015 1st and 7th round pick, 2014 1st round pick and Ryan Callahan for Martin St. Louis and a 2015 2nd round pick.
5.NY Islanders 2015 1st and 2nd round pick and Matt Moulson for Thomas Vanek.
6.Nashville's 2015 1st round pick, Brendan Leipsic and Olli Jokinen for Cody Franson and Mike Santorelli.
7.Tampa Bay's 2015 1st round pick, a 3rd round pick and Radko Gudas for Braydon Coburn.

Honourable mentions -
8.Los Angeles's 2015 1st round pick, Martin Jones and Colin Miller for Milan Lucic.
9.Calgary's 2015 1st round round pick and two 2015 2nd round picks (# 45 and # 52) for Dougie Hamilton.
10.Pittsburgh's 2015 1st round pick (via EDM) and Edmonton's 2015 2nd round pick (# 33) for Griffin Reinhart

bad example of coveted draft years boss

Does Gavrikov for Barrie make more sense now?
No? Bad defensive team trading a defensive defenseman for an offensive one doesnt really make a lot of sense.
I wouldnt be surprised is moved at some point but I highly doubt its for Barrie.
