What's everyone's thoughts?

The Sharks wore blue helmets in Boston on Thursday night and it did look a little strange(similar to the 'Canes wearing red helmets), since I'm so used to NHL road teams in white wearing white helmets. For what it's worth, B.U., where I attend every home game(and most of the road games), wears red helmets all the time, and I'm so used to the look that if they had white helmets at home all of a sudden it would be jarring.

Canes have started wearing red helmets with their away jerseys. At first I thought I liked the change but now that I have googled the white helmets with the away jerseys I think I prefer those.

The Leafs did this in Stockholm (didn't watch the games live, just saw the highlights)... And ya, found it a bit jarring. I'm sure like most everything else I would get use to it if it ever became the standard.

In international hockey there are several countries that wear white helmets with both the white and coloured uniforms and it generally doesn't look great with the latter.

My own personal half-hearted crusade (and probably terrible and unpopular idea) is that skaters should be allowed to personalize their helmets like goalies do.

I’m a fan. It’s an interesting splash of color and I’m not particularly wedded to the “away must = white” idea. I get the pushback though; it’s initially jarring

it entirely depends on the team colors / uniform tbh. there's no black and white answer that applies to all teams. the sharks look awesome. the leafs looked awful, and i think that would hold true for the rangers as well. it's just a more clean look with the white lids for them. it's obvious when it works, and it's obvious when it doesn't. teams it works for absolutely should, teams it doesn't should not. simple as that.

Washington, DC.
It would be novel if the home teams wore the colored jerseys with white helmets at home, and the visiting teams wore their white uniforms with colored helmets on the road.
I think it should just be a decision made base on the uniform. I don't think most dark jerseys would look good with a white helmet, but ones with a white shoulder yoke, like Washington's retros, would look good with white buckets.

Broadly though, the more pops of color on white uniforms, the better. Dark uniforms are already contrasted against the white ice.

Feels like the NHL is trying to affect a college, junior and minor pro European look.

Color match to the pants. Also, if the shoulders are colors, then pair with the helmet like th Devils did.

eveything about their look is awful
I'm definitely in the minority but their uniforms/aesthetic are one of my favorite in the league. Red is my favorite color and their logo reminds me of some sort of retrofuture font that you'd see at a rollerskating rink in the 80's. So if I'm saying these helmets look awful with their uniforms they must really look awful. I hate the Sharks ones too

The problem with this approach is the navy blue looks so dark they may as well be generic beer league helmets. And their jerseys are dated late 2000s designs, so there's nothing charming, retro, or college about them.
Yeah the dark blue comes across as black on tv.

I agree the uni’s are dated, but I also don’t think any one player is so strongly associated with a jersey as Ovi is with that red home sweater — makes sense IMO to ride it out until the end of the Ovechkin era and then rebrand when the next chapter starts.
