The powerplay is the reason we lost this series. Everyone on PP1 should feel bad.
The PP strategy is so dumb. It's "give it to MacKinnon and let him do something."

On the Avs final PP before the Makar stupidity, you could hear Landeskog SCREAMING for passes. He knew how open he was, and when he put the puck to the front of the net they almost scored. Then he was able to set Makar up for a wide open one-timer before shit went to hell.

That is the problem with this coaching staff. Nobody has the balls to tell MacKinnon to stop playing like a f***ing idiot on the PP.

I honestly thought Landeskog looked terrible on the PP and was too slow.

The problem is they get way too nit picky over the salary cap, they traded away Mikko and let Kadri go when they could've just dumped Girard and his 5 mil somewhere like I pushed for but ofc the fans of this team were against it cuz he's a top 3 defensemen according to them and a bargain.
Yup, Girard is a good player, but for one, we won the cup without him, and I definitely rather have Kadri than Girard on this team right now. We could still ice a solid top 4 defense with Lindgren- Manson 2nd pair and some cheaper LD with Malinski. Dallas just beat us with Lyubushkin, Ceci, Petrovic on their blueline.

That's a tough pill to swallow. There's a lot of different reasons we lost this series, and we'll have time to dissect all of it over the next few LONG months. Biggest reason for me was the special teams. Both the PP and PK were atrocious, and that ultimately falls on Bednar and his assistants.

The only silver lining in this, is that Gabe Landeskog showed he can still play at a top six level. He was very good for being out for 3 years. So I'm excited to see what he can do next year.

But this team needs some changes. Mostly behind the bench and front office.

Don't see Lindgren sticking around. Nelson I doubt as well. I would start working on making Necas a 2C from training camp. It's the easiest path to a 2C and with Gabe back we just gained another winger anyways. Plus UFA wingers are easier and cheaper to find than UFA centers.

I am beginning to buy into @Balthazar theory that these players are way, way too comfortable and complacent.

I ripped on Mikko and I am going to eat crow, but I do not think it's a coincidence he went nuts this series ESPECIALLY given how much less he played than when he was here. Mikko was fresh and flying in the 3rd. MacKinnon looked exhausted as usual based on the entire season.

The Avs as a whole look uninspired.

That is what I mean, though. Josh made the move and Josh got results immediately with a playoff series win against a team that honestly is deeper than the Nuggets. Eerily similar to us. The Avs high end talent is better, but Dallas is deeper. The Nuggets high end talent is better but Clippers are deeper, only the Nuggets found a way and I think Kroenke will absolutely notice.
We'll see. I hope you're right.

MacK tries to be Kucherov, but doesn’t have the vision and pure offensive IQ Kucherov has. I wish he’d play more like McDavid who is always looking to funnel things to the net

I really think it's time for G to go. I love the guy but he just isn't it in the playoffs.

I just don’t think he does enough for the amount of responsibility he gets. He’s a good transition player, but he isn’t a particularly scary defender, and he’s lost all of his gusto offensively. They need someone that can make a regular impact and take some pressure off Makar to always create

I don't disagree with you but the point remains that the Avs PP seems to revolve around MacKinnon doing something on his own to create.

Look at Dallas' PP. EVERYONE is involved. Colorado's is insanely easy to defend.
If we didn't have a melt down, Dallas PP would have been blamed for allowing a short handed goal. That's how hockey goes

I really don't think there's that many reasons. We dominated at ES.

Special teams was straight up the only reason we lose this series.

CMac or whoever the new GM is has to re-vamp some things. Colton, Wood, Girard or Manson (I like Manson in general, he brings it in the playoffs every year but his health during the regular season is a big headache) probably need to be shipped out.

This fire Bednar stuff begs the question who in the hell do you hire in his place?
Somebody else.
I am truly starting to believe MacKinnon does not need the chill, relaxed coach.

He needs someone to tell him to wake the f*** up and stop not giving a shit defensively, to stop moping, and play your heart out.

I think Nathan MacKinnon needs a coach who is an absolute asshole, but who knows wtf he is talking about.

I think Nathan MacKinnon needs Joel Quenneville.
Dunno about coach Q, but the rest of your post... 100% times 100. Have been saying this for a bit now. MacK needs a coach who will coach him. Tho I dunno honestly if MacK would respond very well to a system other than what he is inbred in now. Watching glimpses of camera on the bench, watching how beds interacts with MacK... it is more like a negotiation, an appeal, and equivocation. MacK tunes him out. You can see it thru the TV. Mac/coach is not the problem. But it is A problem.

Am glad someone points to this point... MacK needs a coach who would coach him. Otherwise, this and a slew of other things will be same old same old. Not just Mac.

Since at it... man... the pg presser for beds was about the same low energy as regular season. Does anyone not see a problem with this? Man....

Cale Makar playing like complete shit is another.

Otter out playing Blackie in basically every game is another but that was to be expected as Otter is a great goalie.

Girard probably had his best playoffs so far...but it's not good enough. He can't win a battle in the corner. He's just too small.
The entire D core on average is too small. All but Mansonget pushed around far too often. Can’t win in the playoffs this way.

I will never understand why the Avs at 5v5 try to play this fast paced, overwhelm you style then on the PP they slow everything down and try to make perfect plays.

MacKinnon on the PP should NEVER stop moving. Ditto Necas. They should be playing exactly like it is 5v5, only now they don't have an extra defender to deal with.

Frustrating.

I know it’s easy to blame bednar and CMac and there’s definitely an argument to do so, but if Makar played like even a top 10 D we’d probably win the series. Honestly still pisses me off with how bad he played

Bednar needs to go. Give me Tocchet or Laviolette for a season and hope that Cooper shakes loose.

As for people wanting Coach Q, f*** that. As long as you're good at your job, people will want you no matter how shitty of a person you are.

Still think there's an opportunity to have one or two more deep runs if Landy is back healthy, but man this year was incredibly disappointing.
