College Football Offseason 2025: An-NIL-lation

Having college athletes act like entitled NBA players holding out and demanding more pay, is the folly of collegiate capitalism.

It encourages people to take the dollar and their worth over the team concept.

Tennessee was right to kick Nico off but the reasons for doing so just look so bad from an optic viewpoint on Nico's end. He held out for more cash and got kicked out. At times like these I miss the old amateur model.

I think the new bill coming in, that's most likely going to ruin olympic sports for schools is also impacting this. Players are seeing it as the last chance for a pay day before a cap comes into play

Apparently Nico considered opting out before UTjr playoff game this year.
NIL deals should be good for the season. Once that is over, I get arranging a new one based on your performance.

That should include the playoff games.

I recall seeing his name as an early 26 draftee but you just never know with QBs going into year 2 as a starter. Can be good or not as good.

But, you need to decide whether you have a pro future or not. If you do, goal in college is to make some NIL money to have as insurance in case you don’t make it but more importantly land with a good HC and program that can develop you for the nfl.

yep pretty sure that's what this all comes down to in the end, well that and his dad going full Cam Newton's uncle on this particular case.

Honestly this is badly needed and has been since day 1, but the way it ended up happening is going to kill a lot of non-Football and Basketball programs even at some of the flagship schools. TBH there's a lot of programs that should probably consider dropping Football that are out there.

To be fair Cam did win a national title with a bunch of our college football posters here. He was probably underpaid

Yea this is just the pendulum swinging the other way for now. The NCAA pocketed billions for decades off the backs of nothing but scholarships, and people finally wisened up to their scams. I don't have any sympathy whatsoever for the NCAA. They put everyone into this mess.

At some point, athletes as a collective are going to have to acknowledge that not all college sports are equal. Football and Men's Basketball are the sports that bring in what, maybe 80-90% of college sports revenue? So of course they should get the lion's share of the returns. But the details on this bill aren't fully worked out and we won't know the ramifications until it finally settles (and maybe not for a while afterward either).

They'll eventually work something out that makes sense for everyone, but it'll take time and some failures and hopefully the results of those failures aren't too devastating to some of the more obscure sports. No one wants to see scholarships taken away or lessened, I think people just want to see players get a cut of the money they help earn.

They literally went from zero to millions in a heartbeat, well legally.... They will have to make a few adjustments as they have ruined March Madness and Football has less parity every season now.

What? We just saw the 6th seed win a national title in a game where they beat the 5th seed.

NIL has ruined March madness. But we just finished a season were we had probably 6-7 teams that could’ve won a title

The problem with NCAA regulating it is that so many court decisions go against them. It would be much better if it were collectively bargained. But would students unionize? Doubt that too, because not everyone is making money, and some who do, enough.

I'll admit I'm not the target audience for college basketball, but the exciting part of March Madness was the underdog upsets.

Regarding football, they still don't have the formula for the seedings and byes, maybe that will come. But the way players are changing and chasing the NIL sucks. You can't tell me that Washington St and Oregon St can offer the same NIL as Washington and Oregon. Its a two conference league now, a rare team outside of those two conferences might have a chance to win.
