College Football Offseason 2025: An-NIL-lation

I don't see anything wrong with the Sanders contract. He's did great work there and by the end of it plenty of other coaches will be paid higher.

Sacramento State has applied to move up to FBS

Doing so with less fan support than most FCS schools is quite the choice. They're not among the top 5 of programs in the Big Sky Conference. Not even close to cracking it the top 5, truthfully. Their one NCAA Championship was as a DII school for Women's Volleyball in 1981. They excel at exactly zero sports, have DII-caliber facilities, and no existing fan/student support to speak of. Delusions of grandeur they have in spades, however.

I'd call them Florida A&M 2.0, but that'd be an insult to Florida A&M, who had both success and fans when they made their one season sojourn to the FBS.

I always enjoy when you post info like this

Gotta focus more on the TV time slots

The CW Network could do Sacrament after Dark

I think he’s still petitioning our state lawmakers here in Ohio to make a law to have Ohio State and Cincinnati play each other every year

They are, however, in the biggest TV market without a FBS school. Someone must be investing into it.

For sure. Problem is that all that NIL money they've 'raised' is contingent on an invite to the Pac-12. They get none of it for being an Independent.

I'm also f***ing sick of the television market argument. How many New Yorkers tune into Rutgers? And yet that's why they get to pretend they're a relevant program in the 21st century. Is Tuscaloosa a major television market? Which has more fans? Whose games are seen more?

Sacramento State may be in an 'empty' market, but Cal & Stanford are close and far from thriving right now....with more fans, with proud traditions, with good facilities, with a ton of alumni money, in a major conference, etc., etc.

There's the possibility of money. That's what's driving this decision. Apparently that's enough to ignore the overwhelming odds against them and the potential pitfalls ahead of them.

If Tennessee loses that guy, then just give up. Like what the hell are we doing here?

You should only be able to transfer once unless your coach leaves or your jumping up a level.

Some of these kids play for 3 or 4 different schools in 4 years.

100% agreed. Just look at Jaden Rashada for example.

As for Nico, didn’t he come into UT with one of the biggest NIL deals ever as well? Hes going to be a Junior this season and end up jumping ship to the NFL.

The folly of the NIL era

Nico

back in the day he would have to report to the program or be thrown out. Now these cowards can just enter the portal if they feel their time is insufficient. So sad.

And don't get me wrong, players should have always been paid. But there needs to be rules and regulation. Why does a football coach or program have to negotiate salary and NIL payment with a student athlete?

"THAT'S HOW IT'S DONE IN THE REAL WORLD"

These are kids though. "You better pay me what I'm worth or I'll get my agent on and we will bolt." The whole Rashada thing was exhibit A how NOT to handle athlete payment. What a shit show

I'm curious to how much leverage he has... because he was kinda ass last year and Heupels system is SUPER easy for QBs

He's looking out for himself which isn't a bad idea considering the school won't have his back if he takes a career ending injury. I do think the transfer/nil system is a bit out of control tho and that make it tough on the coaches.
