OT: College Football ‘24 - ‘25 Season

What a fine morning to be at the Wasabi Paste Bowl. The biggest story, of course, is who will not be there.

Total a hole but I'm sure spending as much time as he wants in Nantucket is in the contract.

UNC getting pasted. By UConn? Too bad Bill isn't there for some "Beli-cam" reactions. "We're gonna need a bigger NIL boat."

ASU-Texas going to OT, Longhorns just missed another field goal, a doink with time expiring. UT had a 24-8 lead in the fourth.

We've now had 7 games, and one of them was a good one. College football playoffs is a huge success?

Ohio State vs. Notre Dame…

The Irish will have their hands full. That’s an excellent Buckeye team.

My parents and I lived on OSU campus as back in 1968 - 69 when my father went back to school to complete his education. I was seven during that time. It was the year Ohio State won the Rose Bowl. I've been an OSU fan ever since. Not a die hard fan but more casual curiosity. A lot of disappointments over the years. (sounds like another team I know.)

I've been back to OSU a few times over the years. Once in the summer of 1979 when I attended a hockey school at OSU for a week, and again the last time in 1993 when I was working in the Columbus area for about three months doing cold call sales business to business. So when people ask me for my college football team I say Ohio State.

This will be another tough game against Notre Dame. Go Buckeyes!

I hate both. Montreal vs. Toronto.
I was a ND fan beginning in 4th grade when John Huarte was QB in '64. Wasn't
until Flutie played in '82 that I transitioned to BC. Still re-watch every year, the '78 Cotton Bowl on YouTube, when Montana played against Texas for #1 in The Cotton Bowl in '78. Was hoping for a repeat as I'm sure that game would have
been brought up ad nauseum.

Rex Kern must have been the QB?

I've been a Notre Dame fan since I watched the 1989 Fiesta Bowl win over West Virginia. Two things really hooked me: the gold helmets and they're on national TV every week. My fandom has only grown ever since. Sometimes I wonder why I'm cheering for a school that I have zero personal connection to, but I have watched hundreds of excellent football games over the years, and I'm almost always thoroughly entertained.

I feel like growing up around here, Notre Dame was the default team (especially if you’re Irish)

Although I look it, I'm not Irish at all! Most people I knew growing up were on the BC wagon after the Flutie Hail Mary but for some reason, I never ever cared for BC. I even have a family connection to BC as a family member was a professor there (Fr. Matthew Fortier, SJ), but the Fighting Irish are still my team.

Sorry, Uncle Matt.

Sorry, Uncle Matt.

I think I’m a little younger than you (41) so BC was fairly irrelevant by the time my age group started watching sports. ND was the team of choice (I married an Italian, but I’m an Irish girl).

When I was a kid I was either going to Notre Dame or hairdressing school  I burn myself with my curling iron and went to school in Worcester, so neither of those dreams came to fruition.

I’ve got 9 years on you almost to the day (your birthday is 8/31 if memory serves, and mine is 9/1). You’re right, BC did have some down years and always underachieved, while ND always remained popular. My college roommate was and still is a big ND fan also, and ironically, his uncle is a professor there.

To be perfectly honest, there’s a huge part of me that wishes I had tried harder in high school so I could have even applied to Notre Dame. I did get accepted to all the schools I applied to, but I might have done that one differently.

From what I can tell from the little I know you, I think you’d have done just fine academically at Notre Dame.

As an aside, I remember reading a story in the Globe in the ‘90s about how Tom Coughlin ran the program at BC when he was there, and it made me shudder. Not a nice man according to that story.
