I was reading this on him and it sounds to good to be true. This was BEFORE his outstanding playoff with the AHL Calder Cup champion Manchester Monarchs.

http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=759035

"He sees the ice really well, he makes good plays, [and] he's a good passer," Monarchs coach Mike Stothers said. "You can't help but notice how well he skates. He's very efficient at getting around the ice. He's kind of like a hovercraft. We thought we knew how quick he was, but we didn't realize until the All-Star Game when he did the fastest-skater event. That was amazing."Miller completed his lap in at 13.805 seconds, becoming just the second AHL player to win the fastest-skater and hardest-shot events. The performance helped lead the Stothers-coached Eastern Conference All-Stars to a 15-11 skills-competition victory.

and this prior to the deal with Boston

http://mayorsmanor.com/2015/06/kings-scout-sizes-up-forbort-and-miller-as-photographic-negatives/

“Then you have Colin, who stands right out. Hardest shot, fastest skater, and it manifests itself on the ice whenever he is there. He is exceptional and he is exciting and there is an energy that happens when he gets the puck and starts going forward. There’s an energy when he’s on the power play on the blueline. He has obvious talent and high-level ability; but Colin has to fix the defensive part of the game. He just has to simplify and calm down a little bit and that’s normal in the progression of things. It isn’t a surprise to us and it isn’t a surprise to him. That is the hardest part for an offensive guy to learn. On the flip side, the hardest thing for Derek to learn is that he doesn’t have to make the third-option play. We don’t actually want Derek to try to make the third-option play. If Derek makes the first-option play 90% of the time; he is a 15-year NHL player. But, he still hasn’t – neither one has – eliminated that one deficiency in their game yet, but they both excelled this year. You see it in the fact of the minutes they play and how far the team has gone.”

so it was a choice the Kings appear to have made between Derek Forbert first round 13th overall and Colin Miller

Miller needs tightening up on the D but folks- sounds like a high end puck mover

I was a HUGE, HUGE, HUUUUUUGE fan of Jonathan Girard and I think he would have become a star in the NHL if not for that terrible car crash. I could well be wrong but I believe he also won the fastest skater and hardest shot (maybe, maybe not in the same year).
Girard needed time to develop to become a star but Miller reminds me of a slight bigger Girard so I'm really hoping the guy turns out as he should.

If you add C. Miller and Joe Morrow to the top 6 this year there will be some growing pains (which I prefer to growing old pains) but we become the most improved skating teams from the back end in the NHL.

I heard the league was already in discussions to rename the Norris Trophy the Miller Trophy...

Let's start with Colin Miller Skills Award 'before we put him in Canton' as Bill Parcells would say

During the AHL All-Star event in Utica, N.Y., the 22-year-old defenseman fired a 105.5 mph shot during the AHL All-Star Skills Competition, the hardest shot in the event's 20-year history.

That's where I'm at . I for one am eager to see what they can bring. I hope they're given a fair shot, which I doubt, but still hope. If we are counting on Chara and Sieds to be back to full shut down mode, we are going to be disappointed like we never have been before. Let's take some chances this year, what have we got to lose? With the right balance we can even make the not so shinny, shine. If we resort to the old play it safe with the vets, that we have been going with for years, we can look forward to a pretty high draft pick.

Put him on the point with Chara (108.8 hardest shot) and watch shot blocking forwards cower in their booties.

That's definitely what should happen on a re-tool year, I hope they are ready so we will see them up and see them developing.

If those 2 would win roster spots our team would be the most improved skating team in the league. Then I could see our D group and forwards group click and Julien actually would be able to play that faster style, right now he really doesn't

I really want to see Miller up, he screams entertainment and he seems to have everything we are looking for from our missing D.

I'm not sure why this is even brought up...not to attack you VanIsle, but I haven't seen to many guys shy away from blocking Chara's shot lately and for that matter Weber's either.

Shot blocking has become such an art in todays game.

It's more the guys in front of the net that get hurt when the shot does get through, it has time to build it's speed up. But blocking from 10 or so feet is nothing now a days.

But back on the main topic, I feel like I'm one of the few who is not so worried about the Bruins defense this year.

I figure by the 20 game mark, (I've always said the first 20 games is the actual preseason) the Bruins management will know where the young guys stand.

Morrow, Trotman and Collin Miller will have time to prove they belong.

how is a shot going to be faster near the net then right after it leaves the stick? the force propelling it is no longer being applied.

The are a LOT of question marks.

But IF Chara and Seidenberg are back(ish) and IF Krug is true top 4 and 1 or 2 of C.Miller, Morrow, Trotman become core contributors this can be a good D group, and, dare I say, even mobile.

The blue line in October won't be the same as the one in March.

Since when was a 25 mph lazy flick shot on net a 108.8 blast? Seriously though, Chara needs to tee up more this year.

Chara hasn't been teeing them up for years, let's call it for what it is. What good is a 108.8 MPH blast in a slap-shot competition, when you rarely use it in a game?

I think the moment he stopped ripping them from the blue line was when he broke Callahan's leg on the last day of a season, 2011 I believe...

Remember him saying something like he would be careful cause his slap shot could literally be lethal.

How is this a constructive post in this thread? Why do legit articles and points of discussion always have to be met with sarcasm on this forum? :)

I was going to post this. There was talk in a prior thread about avoiding injuring your own players and injuring opposing players, against the benefits of the slapshot. I haven't really made up my mind about this, I would need more data. But I think that this is a legitimate reason in the same way that hitting from behind isn't something that you want to do. These aren't wooden sticks anymore.

I assume the team is going to retire his number based on his performance in the preseason. Ironically though, Claude will still send him down...:naughty:

The greatest player I've never seen. I think we all can be justified in blaming Clode if he doesn't score 30 goals next year in the NHL.

...on a more serious notes, very interesting prospect. Never seen him play, but there's a lot to like if the reports are true. I'd imagine that he'll start in Providence and might get a short look at some point. From there it's up to him, if he can force his way to stay up.

Big problem on this team last season was lack of speed on the back end. Could definitely see Miller getting a long, long look this year. With Krug, Chara, and Seids all lefties, Miller can definitely fight for a spot on the right side. Think he could be a dark horse to make this team opening night.

Lonnie and sarcasm go together like peanut butter and jelly. He'll come **** on your parade route a week before the parade starts.

I'm excited to see him play. Just like I'm excited to see Morrow play. At the end of the day though, I don't think Julien will keep either around, unless he's forced to, because it's not how he likes to execute his system. Morrow looked a lot better than some of the other guys they brought up and let play regularly last year, but as soon as he could, Julien sent him down because his offensive skill set represents risk. Same thing with Spooner. He was good offensively, but couldn't get a sniff because with Julien it's not about being good offensively. It's about being good defensively. I fully expect Miller to be an exciting player to watch during camp, and then for this place to blow up once Julien sends him down...:naughty:
