Post-Game Talk: Cole's Plus/Minus: Game 2 Penguins vs. Rangers

Penguins 2-0-0
Rangers 0-2-0
Flyers 0-2-0

Shrugging the NFL off to the side, all is right with the world.

Agree with everything you said Cole.

I guess I'm one of the few, but I'm mighty excited for Despres. He's making some mistakes, but the plays he's messing up on are plays that've been working for him in the AHL. This is why you can't send him back there to "get more seasoned". It'll hurt his game. Things that work in the AHL wont always work in the NHL and the only way he'll learn that is by playing in the NHL.

That board pass was amazing.

Give him time people... he's going to be a gem back there.

After the early jitters with loads of icings, that was a really solid game.

Only minus is Crosby's line 5 on 5, and Crosby himself on our PP where he just has to be better than all those cross ice passes into opponents skates. And lets not say that it is due to Sid's line mates in this one. It wasn't.

Great to see Vitale back also. Everything we need from a 4th line center and as much as I want success for Jeffrey, it isn't going to come as a center on this team when everyones' healthy.

Good debut from Vokoun also. Not much of anything he could do on the goals.

Not impressed with Sid's play. We all know he has a glorified checking line for talent around him but his decision making is awful.

Good stuff Cole. Agreed with all points. Especially the D corps playing so solid. It's early, of course, but I didn't think we would miss Michalek at all. (I never understood the fuss when we traded him, I thought we was average, at best. Not sure what people thought we could get for him in a trade, I was happy with the return. Salary dump or not.)

What a great start by the Pen's. Two road wins against two tough divisional opponents. And doing it with a lot of hard work and hustle, not just skill.

+ to the defensive game. The amount of pucks we really have to worry about the goalies saving are down considerably. The defensive end has been tightened up considerably and the neutral zone... Trap (for all intents and purposes) has been working wonders.

Somebody please upload a video of that hit. I missed the end of the game picking up my kid from work.

I wish we saw more of the 87 from the first period because I thought outside of Vitale, he mightve been our best fwd.

He looks unconfidennt so far but you could see its all still there. Kunitz isn't doing much to help out either as I'm not sure he has taken a pass clean in either game so far.

Biggest plus of the weekend:

Pittsburgh 2-0-0---4
New Jersey 1-0-0---2
NY Islanders 0-1-0---0
NY Rangers 0-2-0---0
Philadelphia 0-2-0---0

Sid does this every season. He'll look rusty than explode for a ton of points.

Malkin 3 points in only 16 minutes. Wonder why he is seeing so few minutes?

I don't really have any pluses or minuses. Guys played good, nice job by Vokoun. Sid looked a bit out of it at times but I'm not sure why people are worried. He's the best ****ing player in the game. He'll figure it out.

Also, free candy.

Only real minus was the team turning off the intensity level at 5-1. Understandable why it happened, but still don't like to see it.

Despres is going to be like a Dickens novel . . . it was the best of time and it was the worst of times for him today. But, I saw progress there.

Tangradi-- and people will remember that I was saying it was positive 'baby steps' for him yesterday-- looked like a black hole out there with Geno and Neal.

Anyone else like the few shifts from Glass-Vitale-TK tonight? A new RW for Sid, a new LW for Geno, Cooke-Sutter-Dupuis (a true checking line), Glass-Vitale-Kennedy, kidnap Bylsma's lineup card, and good ******** luck dealing with that.

I'm with you guys on Despres. I wish we saw anything close to similarly encouraging ups from Tangradi tonight.

Crosby will be fine. He looks like a guy who hasn't played a lot of hockey in awhile. Once he gets in a little better game shape, the points will come.

Paul Martin - MINUS

And the next time someone talks smack on Vitale I'm slappin' the taste out of their mouth.

That's it I'm done.
