Player Discussion: Cole Perfetti 10th OA pick

here’s longtime Minnesota sportswriter Judd Zulgad watching game 7 last night, and regretting the Wild drafted Marco Rossi over Perfetti:

Rossi was demoted to the 4th line in the playoffs, and taken off the top PP unit. He averaged about 11 minutes of ice time per game against Vegas, but still scored 2 goals and an assist. In a postseason press conference, Rossi implied he didn’t like the demotion, saying he thinks he’s “for sure a top 6 guy”.

Wild reportedly offered Rossi a 5 year extension this winter (rumored for $5M AAV) but he turned it down. Expectation from Wild fans/media is that he’ll be traded.

Rossi is a good hockey player and put up 60 this past year. Albeit in large part because he got to play top line and top pp for 3/4 of the year. Not sure why he got demoted in the playoffs. Still I always liked and still prefer Cole's game to his.

yeah just pointing out the grass-is-greener syndrome (like the Jets fans who wanted Lundell or Jarvis over Perfetti) happens all over

not much to regret with drafting any of those 4 players, IMO

So much about it is usage. Jarvis has been on the top line and top pp unit for years. He wouldn't look near as good as he does if he had Perfetti's role and usage. Lundell has a similar role and scores less.

I'm very happy with Cole's growth.

That draft year was kind of nuts, as I could see any player go from 4-10.

I was super happy we drafted Perfetti at 10, and he's taking some major steps forward. Even I was surprised by his board battles during this series. Seems like he's gained a lot of strength from this time last year.

Overall, I'm happy for him, and hopefully there's a long term extension in the cards.

Perfetti has missed alot of empty nets, but, has been part of alot of opportunities. I'm so impressed by his physicality.

Can’t score if you’re not playing. Wasn’t Cole’s fault he was benched last year and probably not Rossi’s this year

Perfetti’s breakout is now happening
Sure, but I mean in the regular season next year we're really gonna see it. But he may have cemented himself as a Winnipeg legend.

Amazing how he was the 10th pick announced by Hawerchuk's widow the year he passed. I like to think the hockey gods were looking out for us last game.

Cole arrived the back half of this year and he's continued it in the playoffs. He gives off real Reinhardt vibes in how he plays but with perhaps a bit more sand paper. He's joined the core along with Snerg and that bodes very well for this teams outlook.
For whatever reason he reminds me of Daniel briere chubby face and all, mind you briere could be a stockman if I recall

I thought he would go higher, maybe last years benching lit a fuse which speaks volumes about his character, instead of sulking he put in the work and nothing better than a goal score with grit and solid board work,I love how he hangs in while getting beat up in front of the goalie,he doesn't hang his ass back and cheat towards the blue line he is all in.

May have?

He absolutely cemented himself as a Winnipeg legend, he is already down in the history books, that game 7 will be discussed many decades from now and he was the main architect of the victory.
It's likely the most iconic goal in Jets history, along with the subsequent Lowry (Pionk) goal. And sadly it's not a high bar as you could argue the previous standard was Dave Elletts 2OT goal in 1990 in a series that we lost!

I've watched his tip in slow motion about a million times. The sequence makes me believe in a higher power. If Ehlers doesn't whiff on his shot the jets almost certainly lose. If Connor doesn't whiff on his shot the jets almost certainly lose. Perfecto was the only player on that sequence that did exactly what he intended to do. He's a real player and the sky is the limit for him. Really good head on his shoulders.

And if Connor and Ehlers don't turn over the puck over directly for two goals against, we certainly win. ;). However, I won't disparage your higher power argument, perhaps it just likes to f--k with us.

Rossi is polarizing with the Wild fans. I think he is a decent young asset but my dog could get 60 points playing with Kaprizov so I would have to be a Wild fan that watched their team allot of have a more informed decision on Rossi.
