Guessing the Jackets and probably the Flames retire #13 in the near future.

All diminutive NHL players from here to eternity should migrate to the #13.
Skill players who play a crafty or shifty/speed changing game #13 feels has been a thing for a while. But I guess maybe Whitney, Datsyuk, Gaudreau, and Barzal isn't that big a group. (Datsyuk and Barzal aren't diminutive, but were/are stylistically similar to the group.)

Anyway, still in shock.

Selanne and Kozlov are pretty notable ones too

Kozlov was huge & rangy. Selanne was a burst/explosive player. Great players (the former some of the time), but not really like the Whitney/Datsyuk/Gaudreau/Barzal type. Come to think of it, Caufield is kind of more like Atkinson & DeBrincat than those guys, too.

I'm talking about the 5'10 Slava Kozlov not Victor.

Just like I said on the Habs board, normally I don't like players (established ones) changing numbers. This is a clear exception to that. Obviously Caufield looked up to and greatly respected Gaudreau. Gaudreau inspired a lot of people in his life.

Hopefully the Habs step up and allow fans, say from now to the start of the season for example, to bring in their #22 jerseys to get them changed to #13 if they want at no charge. Didn't Nylander pay for the fans to get their #29 changed to #88?
I don't expect that will happen, but I hope they do. The Habs can afford it and it's a small price to pay, to show respect to both the fans and Gaudreau's memory.

I didn't want to bog down this thread with this discussion earlier since it's such a positive story. I know in the NFL that players have to buy out remaining stock to change numbers or change them like a year in advance (which is a big deal for players who sell significant merchandise). According to this tweet, the NHL has no such fee. But, the deadline had passed for a change, but the NHL (and I guess Fanatic's) agreed to waive it according to this tweet.

Which according to google translate says this.

Cole Caufield's number change - I'm told there is no fee for the player to do so (unlike the NFL). That said, the deadline to make the change in Caufield's case had passed and the NHL made an exception.

I'll need a new avatar! Very nice gesture and that number will look good on him too.

Also, if you don't know what to do with your #22 jerseys, you could always use them to honor Montreal born & raised Mike Bossy.

13th goal for #13 in columbus. There was 13 mins left in the period when he scored. Slaf’s assist on the goal was his 13th point. 🤯

Correct me if I'm wrong, but also on CBJ's 21st game when they were up 2-1?
