Cole Caufield potential.

Maybe but just looking at the last 20 years, 34 y/o ultra skilled Kovalev is the only one to have a PPG season in Montreal with 1.02 in 2007-08

Recently, Tatar had 0.90 PPG in 68 games last season. Toffoli had the best season of his career with 0.85 PPG in 52 games this season

Hopefully we'll be able to have full 82 games seasons for the foreseeable future but just want to note how difficult it is to maintain PPG over a full season.

Is Caufield going to be the best offensive Habs player in like 3 decades? Everything is possible but IMO it's far from an easy feat to accomplish

I think most habs fans will be more than ecstatic if he puts up pacioretty type numbers in the 30-35 goal range with 30 assists --maybe in his prime he hits 40 goals if they develop a lethal PP

That's what I see from him, a smaller but dynamic Pacioretty (Edit : this is not a stylistic comparison), with a few 30-40 goals, 60-70 points seasons (a lot depends on health too)

If that happens it's quite the success. There's a possiblity that he develops even more than that but that's not the most likely outcome. PPG players don't grow on trees.

And also nothing wrong with that, Bergevin built a team with several solid players and good depth instead on relying on 2 superstars but bad depth (ex : Edmonton). It's depth and team chemistry that wins in the playoffs, like Montreal just did.

Caufield is nothing like Pacioretty minus the shot.

He can stickhandle and pass really well.

Wanted to add that these kind of players (McDavid, Draisaitl) are extremely hard to get so when you don't have them, you do like Bergevin did. Maybe it took him a bit of time but finally got a good recipe to go on a nice run.

And the problem with teams like Edmonton (and Toronto), is that you need to find the right recipe of support and depht players to have success in the playoffs. Hockey is a very complex sport to analyze, there's a lot of variables

Also going to add here since I like facts

Since 2011-12, Pacioretty is the 10 highest points producer (0.81 PPG) in the NHL among Left Wingers

Guys that have been better (in that order) : Panarin, Ovechkin, Marchand, Gaudreau, Hall, Benn, Guentzel, Huberdeau, Kyle Connor... so pretty much the elite LWs

11th guy in there is Alex DeBrincat, Habs fans should be very happy if Caufield turns out like him, or close.
