Matthews, Kyle Connor, Kaprizov, Draisaitl, McKinnon, and Ovechkin may beg to differ.

But Cole will have his say over the next few years.
The only ones who I think will end scoring more goals on a go forward basis are Matthews and Draisaitl. Ovy gotta slow at sone point, doesn’t he? Lol, maybe not. What Ovy is doing is completely unprecedented, but I gotta believe Father Time will catch up to him at some point.

I think he will go from 40g season to a 20g season to retired here eventually, but he could have a couple 40 goal campaigns left. I’ve learned not to bet against him. I’ve been expecting a goal scoring decline in a major way for 5 years now Lolol.

I totally get what you’re saying and you have the right attitude. But my standards for this guy are higher than any forward we’ve had since Richer.

Maybe I’ll be disappointed but… I think he hits 40. :)
I think he hits 40 without much issue tbh. I don’t think 50 is out of the question.

I would put Pasternak before him too

I love caufield shot and offensive vision but he needs to find ways to get involved on the play and be smarter when he doesnt have the puck..

Sometimes its frustrating to see him float around we understand you can score but you need to show your teamates you dont only think about scoring your next goal or point.

Ill say next year for CC

Im super late to reply but this put a big smile on my face... FINALLY

I've said it countless times on here, how can we hope to develop talent without talent leading the way? I did not even mean the coaching staff - good coaches dont need to be great players - but ffs you need someone in the organization to pave the way.

most of our vets played the past few years/whole career under coaches that avoided skilled plays like the plague. It's unfortunate, but they probably can't help guy like Suzuki and Caufield grow, because those 2 are already much better players...

Its little details like those, passed down from a superstar (St Louis) to a high skill rookie (Caufield), that will make a difference in the long run. It's real tough to score in the NHL, you need those sweet deceptions.

40 should absolutely be the target next year.

It's OK to be excited about good young players. It's not inherently reasonable to downplay and say we should be sitting here right now looking at 30 goals as a very successful season for Caufield next year. What Caufield is doing under St. Louis is not the aberration, it's what he did under Ducharme that was out of line with his body of work. This isn't some 3rd liner having a hot streak, it's a high end talent and a very special shooter doing special things and he'll be attached at the hip to our best playmaker for the foreseeable future.

I understand the drive to reflexively downplay our players to avoid getting disappointed, but things are different now. The coaching and organizational philosophy are different, the deployment will be different, and the player is the real deal. It's not like St. Louis is going to suddenly turn heel next year and put Caufield on the 4th line and tell him he needs to muck and grind.

40 should absolutely be the target next year.

Matt Duchene scored 41 goals this year there is zero reason Caufield can't score 40. Scoring is way up right now and unless there is some massive correction towards goaltending, I don't see why he can't score 40.

I won't be worried or bothered if he doesn't, but he has all the tools to do it.

Never in my entire life have I seen a Habs player with such a precise shot and in such a varied way.

He'll adapt and get better all-around, just like he did in the NCAA. The team around him will also get better in the coming years which will help to better exploit his talents.

Always liked the guy and know he has a reputation as being a nice guy. I just watched the video the Habs posted a few days ago with him mic'd up at practice. It just made me smile. He seems like a genuine, decent person, who brings a great energy to the group. We have to keep him. His kind of talent and attitude is the kind of combination that overcomes any issues with size.

I don't know if he can reach 40 goals next year, but at least 30 goals is a realistic projection to him. With his great passing abilty, I see 30g, 30a, 60 points.

When the team will be better, I don't see why he can't put 40g, 40a type of season for many years, this guy is too talented and have high hockey IQ in offense zone.
