Selfish play.

Riding the coat tails of this team and just potting empty-netters while everyone else does the work.

I hope he's a healthy scratch for the playoffs.

That was some putrid 1 on 1 defending against Tage Thompson. Play the body, you little p***y boy.

lol he tried.. that was the result.

There's no world where Guhle should have went for the play kill on the wall to leave Caufield back to cover Tage.
Lol asking players to be mindful of who's the other player on your team defending now?

How about we don't employ players with flaws that are so big? I've never seen a worse player lead the league in goals.

He’s set up tons of chances at the start of the year and nobody could convert.

Lately there’s been no sustained offensive pressure. His shot is good enough to he can make something from nothing but some of it is puck luck.

Riding the coat tails of an awful team? How does that work?

NOBODY except Hutson has looked consistently good this year. It’s great that Cole has racked up goals and Nick’s a point per game but neither of them are playing well.

It’s a product of the whole team being bad. I can’t believe Suzuki’s a point per game, he’s looked brutal as well. That all do.

He hasn't looked brutal you just have a bone to pick. He's always the first player back, defending, stripping pucks. The fact you believe they're even close to each other tells us all we need to know.

It’s amazing. If the team can start to improve its play, he could have a great year. Right now everything is going wrong and he’s having a great year anyway.
Having a player like this on a great defensive team is one thing but having such a player on a team like the Habs is just counter productive.

I assumed my "I hope he's a healthy scratch in the playoffs" would have been the detractor that that wasn't a serious post.

Cole has showed he can be an underrated playmaker at times, too

Not defending Caufield's defensive play (he is obviously below average) but an NHL player should 100% be mindfrul of their teammates that are on ice and their strenghts and weaknesses. That situation against Thompson is hard for any player, especially Cole Caufield.

Was at the game yesterday…

It’s so nice having that pure goal scorer that we have lacked since FOREVER. Hes never going to be great on the back check, we just have to accept that.

I think he nets us much more positive than negative, I don’t want to go back to the days of us having third line grinders who have no hands, but are competent on the back check. Be thankful we got him.

It’s fine if he’s a bit below average defensively, no worries there…

BUT he needs to be better 5v5 which he was last year. Actually his main defensive contribution should be to spend more time in the ozone which has been lacking this year. He has the speed and vision to be better in the cycle game with the right players.

OFC his scoring makes up for it but it would turn him from + into ++++

For the record, I did not take your playoff scratch seriously.
That's fair

He's obviously too small for it and wouldn't never be able to survive it, or get around a big, menacing D like Brayden McNabb.

Granted I have been negative about a lot with the Habs, so I could see how my post would be seen as just a continuation.

He's so much better than he was last year. Last season, he would lose control of the puck so often when dangling, it was so frustrating.

I really love his play right now.

Is he our best forward at the moment?

People really minimize his upside and it’s pretty frustrating. Imagine if his linemates were humming? He could easily be over a PPG.

Sure, we all want to see him do it over a whole year but still the way people talked about him last year was bordering on the absurd.

We are cursed. I get it but a part of you has to give these kids the benefit of the doubt. There’s plenty of positives. We just need it all to come together a bit more.

It’s frustrating because it almost seems like a zero sum game in terms of when some players are doing good, a certain amount of players have to do bad. It’s frustrating but we have plenty to work with

I think he is.

He’s been looking very good with whoever he plays with. Not only the goals but he creates too.

Lot of artificial caps on his upside and how “uni-dimensional” he is. His sophomore season and the Cup run should’ve been a good indicator that this kid isn’t just a goal scorer.

Really hope he can keep it up because I wrote a LOT of cheques with my yapper about him and his upside lol.

Yeah, he is. But he’s more one dimensional than Suzuki is and always will be.

Everyone should be playing better than they are. CC’s goal numbers are good but his shots are way down. He’s slowed down considerably since the beginning but f the season. Unless they can get more offensive pressure it’s going to be tough to maintain the numbers he’s got.

First time since what, Richer in the 80s?

Did he get 2 tonight, or did Xhekaj get 1 ?
Richer had 50 goal seasons in 88 and 90.

He got two tonight and is pacing for 55 right now.

Good news is he has 16 shots in his last four games. That’s encouraging because he’s been off all year on that front. No coincidence he’s scored in three straight.
