We all know Celebrini isn't a defenceman. However, he is a high-end, two-way forward. Calling him an anonymous "rookie forward" sounds like someone trying wayyy too hard.
Celebrini is among the best rookies, but what we watched was an elite goal scorer going against an exhausted 18 y/o rookie forward who was trying to play defense 3v3.

You are right though, some people are trying way too hard to make this something it wasn’t. On both sides.

Is that a video for ants?

Also meh, we see that goal once a week in the NHL and doing it on an forward is even more meh.

I will say a good toe drag is one of the most beautiful plays in all sports. Right up there with some pitches in baseball that are a work of art

Definitely a candidate for GOTY. Way too much is made of "quality of defense". 3 on 3 goals can't be candidates? Give me a break, it was created so we can have more candidates.

Give credit where it's due - its a great goal.

If that's the GOTY, then it sure is a weak year.

He didn't even go through a defenseman, but a rookie forward who's 18 years of age.

Tis a great goal. Like usual, putting too high standards with that title takes away from the play

Here's NHL top goals of the week:

Of these, I'd say at least the Toronto goal at 1:39 is better, but there's probably a half dozen that I prefer over this one, perhaps because I'm not that impressed with moves that shouldn't work working due to facing inexperienced opposition. Much more impressive to score against an opponent defending perfectly.

Can I see the other 21 times this goal was scored this year?
The reason you don't see this move that often isn't because it takes so much skill. It's because the move is so basic that it's rather easy and consistent to defend against.

Chances are, Caufield only went for it because he realized he was going against a forward.

This move's seen at the 14-15yo level all the time, and is a nothingburger.

More than the move, I really like the way he deposits the puck. His hands barely move but he comfortably goes top cheddar from in tight.

It looks effortless and easy compared to the move itself, so that will get overlooked, but it was my favourite part of the whole play
