I think Kovi did a good job of showing that he shouldn’t be seen as a throw-in for this deal in his debut.

Is he going to be a multi-point guy every night? Wouldn’t bet on it. However he didn’t look out of place on a line with Celebrini and that’s a huge W in my books for San Jose.

Agreed. If he continues to hustle like last night, he could be that Nils Ekman type compliment to Celebrini. Also helps KHL Russia relations for future signings or draft picks have Kovelnko on the team.

Excellent debut for Blackwood with 37 saves (.949) in a 5-2 win.
I thought it was 38/40, 0.950?

Apparently there's an illness going through the Avs team, today was far from a good game. But Blackwood brought his A-game, and kept them in it.

It feels surreal TBH, Blackwood with a 0.950 in his debute and Wedgewood has 0.931 through 5 games. We have to go back two years at least since the Avs have had goaltending this good.

Thought it was too but they took away a save epr ESPN. perhaps there's an error on the site. NHL says 37/39 for Blackwood as well. They must have made a change later,

Thank you, San Jose. Hopefully Kovalenko continues to thrive for you. We all know, you weren’t in this trade for Georgiev Porgiev Puddingpie.

Anybody still confused about this trade needs to watch the highlights from tonight's Sharks/Avs game and then recognize that is a microcosm of this season as a whole for both goalies.

Perfect move for both teams given their aspirations.
This.

One goalie can help you win a game. One goalie can help you lose a game.

Nuff said.

Blackwood was excellent and Fourgiev was good and then he melted down in the third.
It was clearly only a matter of time for Fourgiev even when he was good. There is a reason no other goalie in the league swats their glove hand like a basketball player trying to stuff a dunk attempt.

A player on a team competing for the 1st OA pick is different than a player on a team competing for a cup.

Kovalenko is fine and all but on a cup contending sharks team is he playing on the 1st line with #1 PP time. No.

Playing with Celebrini is a treat and good for him and good for the sharks. I have to say he looked good tonight. Where the hell was that >=[

I don't expect Blackwood to consistently play like this, because if he does he'd be a top 5 goalie.

But for now i'm enjoying the show.

He was always a goalie with very high highs and very low lows. The hope is that with more maturity and better support, he became more consistent. And if he did, that top-5 or top-10 at least goalie isn't so ridiculously far out of reach.

He's been playing well for two seasons now. He has the occasional stinker but far more often than not he's keeping you in games and outright winning a few. Today was what Blackwood has looked like for two years. Nobody noticed because the Sharks were horrendous to watch last year and better but still bad this year.

I really think Blackwood, if he can bring this to the playoffs, gives the avs a shot.

The Avs are honestly playing some of the worst hockey they've played in the last 5 years since trading for Blackwood, and they're still managing to be 2-1-0 so far, largely because of Blackwoods play.

If they could every get their heads out of their asses and play decent hockey, they could go on a real run. But at this point I'm genuinely starting to think this team might just not be very good. As it is with the injuries it definitely just isn't a very good team.
