Not sure how far off I am on value..
I see Colorado needing to get out of some money and are most likely to move off of Wood (oof on that contract, hence the additional picks attached)
Girard would be 5M off the books as well but i think he has some value. PIT can eat the salary and gets Girard to play prominent role on a not-so-good D Core.

Lizotte is an excellent 4th line C and can play wing as well. Cheap bottom 6 option, and they add a 3rd.

I threw out Girard for 2 2nds in another thread and Avs fans weren’t fully on board with it. I can’t imagine there is any way they like this one more.

I know Wood has a negative value contract but I don’t think they’d go for this.

Other than us not really getting an extra pick (a 2027 2nd and a 2026 3rd aren't super different in terms of value in 2025). Lose the 3rd coming from Pittsburgh, or if you're trying to balance, make it 5-7 round pick.

Then I have no problem with it. Wood skating as fast as he can into the end boards over and over will at least provide some comic relief. And I've always had time for Girard...

As noted, Lizotte is a good, effort based 4th liner. I don't like him further up the lineup than that. I think his game falls off notably.

We can't trade Girard with no capable top-4 replacement. He's 21+ minutes a night in the regular season. We don't have the assets to trade for a replacement. We can't afford a free agent replacement.

People can nitpick Girard all they want and sure, in the playoffs, there are matchups where it is a real struggle. But he is by some measure our #3 defenseman in the regular season. Manson is always a threat for the IR. Lindgren is gone. Malinski is not proven above strictly third pair minutes.

Garbage for the Pens. Doesn't fit the mold of what they are trying to accomplish. Lizotte will get us more in return at the deadline and I cant see them taking on Girard's contract for a 2nd rounder. We already have Graves. A left side of Girard and Graves is atrocious

I cant see them taking on the Wood contract just to get Girard... he aint that good. I understand getting the 2nd rounder and hoping to flip Girard later down the road but hes regressing already and hes on a good team. I cant imagine the disappointment of his production being put on the pens.

It is great. Good teams keep their assests so it makes me question why your trying to get rid of him... Colorado is trying to win now. Pens are trying to get better on defence. I dont care that hes a PMD, so is Karlsson and look how he turned out with us. Pens want DEFENSIVE players. Girard has been a -7 dating back the last 4 years. Please keep your "asset".

Girard is on a good contract for any team. So I don't think he will be traded just to save cap money.
Acquiring a 3 D will cost more than 5M per year.
Replace Girard by Ross Colton and that's a deal

We'd love cap space, but Girard is not the cap dump people hope we think he is, despite a few irrational posters here saying so. Moving him out leaves our D looking very weak after the obvious top 2. Unless we sign Provorov or Gavrokiv, I dont see Girard being moved.

This is terrible, Girard is not a cap dump. The Avs have talked about trading him for years now but they're not going to give him away for peanuts.

The Avs also don't need a 4C, they already have Coyle and Drury as their bottom six centers.

Girard isn't even remotely close to a cap dump and Woods contract won't cost a bunch to move either.


The Avs are not that desperate to move cap space. We don't have to make a single move to be cap compliant next year with a strong roster.
