It seems like Mittelstadts feet and brain are too connected. He's trying to keep pace with his skating but while thats happening, his brain needs to slow things down. Instead, it seems like his feet are in a hurry and so is his brain. He seems eager to get rid of the puck rather than letting things materialize. Theres a big difference between playing fast and skating fast and Mittelstadt seems to be caught in some nexus in between right now.

Its like a baseball player who slumps because hes in between pitches - late on the fastball and early on the curve/change up.

I thought both Mitts and Parss looked good last night. If Mitts can return to his early season/playoff form and Parssinen can continue to build off this game we’ll be looking really good. Insane to think we could go into playoffs with lines of:

Drouin-MacK-Rantanen
Nuke-Mitts-Colton
Landeskog-Parssinen-Lehkonen
Kivi/Wood-Kelly-LOC

Mitts' main issue is that he holds on to the puck way too long. He has been a bit better as of late to get rid of the puck but he needs to do better.

Disagree with the bolded. It is the opposite. He waits too long and then he has one or two players on him and loses the battle.

Parissen needs way more than a few games to get up to speed, but his talent was on display. He was faster than i imagined too.

Colton is expendable anyway. Drouin is going to be cheaper option for top six wing and Colton is too expensive to play 3rd line.
I'm sorry but this isn't even remotely true... In fact, Colton is on a bargain of a deal especially as the cap starts to rise exponentially.

$4M is very reasonable for a 3rd liner.

If you already have Landeskog Nuke and Rantanen as bigger salary wingers (assuming they ever all play at the same time). Then Lehkonen and Drouin who are better in the same salary range and Colton is a pretty logical trade piece if he can bring back a pick.

On a top heavy team like the Avs having your 6th best winger at 4M seems like a luxury they can't afford.

I would rather they use Coltons cap room and any assets on a guy who can push Manson down the depth chart. A medium term solution who's signed for two or three years.

Colton may not be overpaid but it doesn't seem like a good allocation of cap space for his role on this team.

If he's a 40pt 3C he's a going to be a bargain. If he's a 40pt 3W he's on a decent and fair deal. I think the Colton hate is a bit overdone. If cap space is needed he's definitely the first one to go I'd guess, but his contract is more than fine.

But we dont have landeskog since theres no way to tell if he ever plays again.

I don't think anyone hates Colton. He's just the easiest guy to move on from (well, him and Wood).

That's a pretty big IF especially with Landy but quite frankly there's a bunch of uncertainty with all 3 of those guys right now.

I also don't think Colton is a Winger long term even though I probably would prefer him at Wing.

Sure IF Landy returns, and Mikko stays, and Nuke stays clean... Yeah at that point they need to make cap space and Colton is probably the guy you use for that space.

But we're also killing any semblance of depth at that point as well.

But for now, until we get more clarification on the Landy situation, our "dire" cap situation is being greatly exaggerated IMO. Especially with the cap jumping up to $95-96M next year we actually have some good space to make everything work. That all changes if Landy does return and assuming they re-sign Mikko... Then they probably will need to chop about $5-6M off other salaries to make it work.

That's what I'm thinking too. It happened when he got better linemats. I think he's trying to draw a second guy to him the way Foppa used to before making the pass...that way the recipient is that much more in the open.

He's just not Foppa.

Colton can play up in the lineup and multiple positions. That kind of flexibility is valuable. Which is why he was a coveted piece when Cmac got him.

The big hole right now is Manson. There's also question marks in various places but in my opinion it's an undeniable issue that Manson is aging, injured often, and not that good when he's in the lineup.

Yes it's good to have someone in the top 4 with snarl. But you go out and get a better younger Manson for the next 3 or so years.

In my opinion Manson should be the trade bait. The logical path to upgrading on D leaves him as a #5 making over 4 millions. A much bigger misallocation of cap room than a 4 millions third line C/W.

But back on topic I did like Parssinen. I think Bednar is going to somewhat neuter the physical game Parshin needs to play to be effective. But I'm a pessimist.

I liked Parsinnen's game last night. Trending in the right direction already is a good sign for his coachability and fit on this team. Seems like he's got a good head on his shoulders too from interviews.

Love the way he'd battle in the corners, protect the puck well, then kick it off to someone and go straight to the net to battle more.

Actually reminds me a bit of Gratton who I liked a lot at 3C. Not flashy, but big, smart, skates fairly well despite a choppy stride, good two way game, keeps it simple, goes to the net, and battles.

I mentoned in another thread the other day I thought that the Avs have changed path a bit to spend more on goaltending, and perhaps have gone back to spending less at 3C, hoping Parssinen can lock that down.

Knowing he doesn't have enough time before the off season to prove he's worth a big raise. Timing being perhaps a big reason for the trade, hoping they can find another gem that's underpaid.

Off to a good start. Keep battling Juuso. Bednar will love ya.

We really can't trade Manson or Colton at this point.. we just need to pay out the ass to get retentioned veterans.

Those are off season decisions. Manson's probably not going anywhere, but I think Colton may. Good player, and good fit on the team, but they just need his cap space. Whether he's a winger or a center.

I want to see them go big on a better Manson that's a longer term solution.

Trade a first or two. And the next Barron and Newhook in the cubbard.

Go all the f*** in for the next 3 years.

It's common for a student of a new system to doubt himself and confuse his own muscle memory. The rocks in his head will wear themselves smooth and he'll be fine

Maybe we should try him at #2C until Mittelstadt unf***s himself?

Nice goal yesterday, that was the only good thing about that game.

Parssinen replaced Mittelstadt as 2C. I did not think it would happen so fast.

Parssinen?
